I am back in Stockholm now!

Last wednesday (4.am) I took the £20 Ryanair flight to London then down to Wiltshire to pick up a land-rover then that evening up to Mid-Wales, thought about Timmy Mallett just up the road in LLandod, but time was very short, I drove up to Southport (Banks) thursday, and then back down again to Knighton just in time to do my HGV/PSV medical (renewal at 45), thursday evening, then up early friday, and up to Ellerker, (near Hull) for my aunts funeral (59), stayed overnight, then saturday back down to Mid-Wales, I did write up Steve Broughtons tel nr and address as I thought I might get time to swing by, but left there abit late, got to Knighton late staurday night….Sunday was just relaxing and then early Monday I drove up to Newcastle to get the ferry (26 hours) back here, and just my luck to have a rough crossing!

Would have been nice to have called in on a few faces from the boards here. Will have to see next time. It was fun to be back “home” in the UK, although it went very quickly.

Is the Land Rover for yourself Henry?
Wouldn’t mind a good sturdy work horse like that! 😀 😀

Hey what’s this about an HGV test
Crumbs! Gave up my HGV license (LGV now) cos’ they wanted me to take the medical at 45 and I couldn’t be bothered. 😥

    Had license since 1973!

    Hi John,

The land-rover is for me, I have a Chevrolet pick-up which I have had awhile now but as its custom painted and they chuck shed loads of salt everywhere here in the winter, I had been using my old Volvo with a trailer in the winter months. Sold that and bought a Chrysler Voyager for the family and thought a Land-Rover would make a good second work vehicle I bought a 97 300tdi Hardtop with long Brownchurch roof rack ideal for boards and ladders, it goes really well.

I drove trucks all the time for Edwin Shirley Trucking in London before making signs, we did tour (music) and corporate trucking. I still meet up with friends when there are shows here, the last visits where from people working for Santana and ZZ Top, and sometimes I still do the odd doubledrive from Stockholm to Lisbon, or Berlin etc.

I also have done a few Swedish TV shows driving OB equipment etc, so its good to keep the bus and truck licences going, always got something to fall back on!

You don’t lose your licence if you don’t do it at 45 , just entitlement to drive those vehicles which is restored if and when you do a medical.

Its quite pricey, up in Wales there is an old retired GP that does it quite abit cheaper!

Steve, would have loved to have called in, I like the work you do….no time this time but I will do it in the future!

    Hi Henry

    You’ve certainly been around!

Incidentally how are your eardrums? 😆 😆

Thanks for the note about the license. I really thought I had lost it for good. I was under the impression that you would have to take another road test. Interesting!

I have a sister lives in Uppsalla, and will be visiting her next year for a bit of the old schnapps and some bear spotting

A pity your trip was a rushed one, would have loved to meet up somewhere. If you are due to come over again give me a shout for a few beers……

    Timmy….
