  • Gone phishing! – Email Bank Scams!

Its not only telephone scams nowadays – ever get the emails from “your bank” “saying important security update” Modern internet jargonese call this scam “phishing”

These scam emails that form the basis of phishing attacks commonly pose as ‘security check’ emails from well-known businesses. These messages attempt to trick users into handing over their account details and passwords to bogus sites. Typically, the fraudsters behind the ‘phishing’ scams are located outside the UK. Since they are unable to transfer money directly from a victims’ online account overseas, UK intermediaries – or ‘mules’ – are hired to transfer money into other UK bank accounts before sending it overseas.

with more of us using online banking it sometimes seems credible when you receieve a email with official logos of the bank needless to say – don’t click on them – contact your bank with the details.

What with telephone, email, scams and interuptions its no wonder it seems we never have enough time in the day.

I was on the phone to one of my customers (my computer side job), I found out that he had an email from the bank with a link to click, I knew then he had fallen in the trap.

I told him to go to his bank online (lloyds) and the website locked him out, he got in touch with his bank and they blocked a known attacker attempt and sending him post about it.

So, the easiest thing with email, if it has a link dont click on it, banks should not send emails with links. Go to the website manually and sign in that way to anything like that.

My spam box has dozens of emails like this and I did compare the dodgy site with the official lloyds site, it was 95% copied!
