  • Gold Chrome – Smart Car panels around the doors

Posted by Daniel Evans on December 9, 2015 at 10:03 am

    Hey guys

Justy had a request to wrap the door surrounds on a smart car, you know the parts that are usually another colour.

Trying to source a gold chrome material for it, can anyone help??

Spoke with Grafityp and they have one that is just for standard lettering and it’s fairly cheap so I know you can’t wrap with it, hexis are introducing one soon from what I hear but not at the moment.

    Thanks

Europoint, Avery Supreme – Sure I’ve seen in their new swatch book.

Going to cost a bit unless you join it, as the new shape smarts the surrounds are one piece, meaning you put the majority of it in the bin.

    Tell me about it.

Just spoke to William Smith and no one will put their name to it saying that it won’t fail.

Just priced it up so we’ll wait and see what the customer says.

    Thanks

I’d have thought you’d be OK, as they’re not too curvy, no deep recesses, although you may have an issue if you’re going the tail light surrounds. We did this one in Black, from Silver.

Didn’t even think about the lights at this stage.

I personally think i’ll be fine but I’m not sure I want the client coming back after 6-9 months telling me it’s coming off and it’s then down to me to put right.

What material did you use for that and is it still ok?

Used 3m 1080 in that. Not used the chrome finishes so not sure how they bahave compared to standard colours.

Must have done it about 6+ months ago and they’re still happy with it 🙂

They will probably change their mind when you tell them the price. The Avery is circa £80/m and is only 1200 wide.

Yes 1080 and Avery Supreme are both excellent materials.

If it only comes in 1220, you may have to do a join, as I’m sure it’s a lot deeper than that.
