• Gloss finish acrylic

    Hello all

I am looking for a supplier who can supply me with a sheet of 5mm thick acrylic in a size of up to 10ft by 4ft. The colour would preferably be in a pantone 072 or close as possible. Its a dark blue, I would almost call it midnight blue.

Who do you use and who is the best.

What are these acrylics like in direct sunlight? how long does my client get told it is likely to last? It is going to be in full sunshine for all day every day and the heat and sun worry me a bit. I am going to fit it within an alloy frame to allow a bit of movement. Is this a good idea? I feel it will allow for a bit of come and go with the final fitting as well.

    many thanks for your time

    Stuart

Stuart, Europoint and Amari both do 5mm Acrylic in 3050mm x 2050mm so the sign would be in one piece. They both cut to size so you won’t have a problem cutting it and they both do Panatrim/Eurotrim style framing.

Europoint and Amari both do them but not in the required colours I need!

Its a real picky customer who insists on a pantone matched colour

In that case Stuart you are going to struggle to get this in acrylic, if you want an exact pantone match they will do it but you will need to buy a lot of sheets !!!
What about using an ally sheet such as Alucolor or Rynobond making a sign tray and getting it either wet sprayed or powder coated ? I know it will cost more but if the customer wants an exact match he has to understand that he will have to pay for it.

This post was actually made weeks ago and the sign goes up this week.
In the end I got a sheet of alucolor from Europoint, colour was pretty close to the pantone shade, I explained that the colour was the same but due to the satin finish and lighht reflection etc!! it would look a wee shade off. I then had some panantrim powder coated locally to the same shade and presto a colour matched framed sign for under £190.

Glad to hear you got it sorted, even if some of the help was a little late in coming. I don’t think I would have told the customer what you did though. Things like this have a habit of coming back to haunt you. I would have just told him that this was the closest shade available off the shelf and I douted if anyone would be able to spot the difference but if he did wan’t an exact match I would have got a price to powdercoat the sheet, doubled it so it was worth your while and let the customer make the choice. At least that way if he did insist on an exact match you would make a decent wedge from doing it.

Martin funny enough thats basically what I told him. I gave him 6 different quotes and he chose the cheapest! I told him to get exactly what he wanted he had to pay top price, he chose to compromise not me!
