    Hi

As per title, I have been given this huge PDF file that is 2.2 gigabytes. How on earth it got so big I will put down to the incompetence of the designer, because there is no godly need for it to be that big. There really isnt much to it.

It will actually eventually open in acrobat reader, although it takes a while, and if you try to navigate to the bottom of the picture it just takes forever to re-draw.

Versaworks shows the countdown, takes about ten minutes, reaches 99%, then shows a message that the file is corrupt.

Photoshop wont open it. Illustrator crashes. Indesign wont take it. (all the above mac and PC)

Is there an online service that will open PDFs and then you can download them as JPGs or something more practical?

The ones I tried wont open anything that big.
    Or any other ideas anyone?

Thanks. Im sure weve all had this problem.

    Do you have acrobat pro?

There’s an option in there to reduce file size, how effective it will be I don’t know.

may be worth trying, along with a preflight fix up to the x1a standard.

Re-name it. I call them rude names to stop myself chucking it across the room.

Download it again. Stick it in a different file location

We have this problem quite often for big window adverts we do for a local theatre. Graphic designers just can’t follow instructions.

Also worth clearing everything in versaworks. Running c cleaner. Reboot the computer and only have versaworks running.

Also in versaworks there is a setting for max amount it can process. Am sure this is in the edit tab… we had to put ours up to the max. Can’t remember exactly where it is. It’s called like maximum input processing or something like that.

if this were me, Simon. i would call the customer and tell them their artwork is useless and that it is crashing your system. this is as good as not being given artwork at all. customers make my blood boil sometimes.

Yup Perhaps I will next time, but this time I went the other way.
Fixed it, took me 4 hours, charged in full to the customer.
