  • Getting van details from reg number

Posted by Daniel Evans on November 9, 2017 at 9:45 am

    Hey guys

Is there any way to get the van spec from a reg number?

I’m wanting to find out if it’s a short or long wheelbase and if it has a standard roof or high roof etc.

Before you say ask your client, half the time I’m not even sure they know it’s a van.

I know you can type in the reg number online and get some details but I don’t think it goes that in-depth.

Sometimes I just want to double check the information is correct.

Speak with a local friendly garage. They’ll probably have access to more information, as they’ll source parts for the vehicle?

You could possibly use a ‘compare insurance’ search or even the DVLA website – DVLA vehicle search

    Thanks Peter.

DVLA doesn’t seem to give that much information but I have found that webuyanycar does although it all depends if it was registered correctly and I know for a fact that admin staff at showrooms can get it wrong a lot of the time so I think I’ll just ask to see the van to make sure.

askMID should give you the exact model including SWB/LWB. After that, go to the manufacturer’s website and find full specs.

It is an excellent app it even helps when youre mot is due i looked at the app one day showing some Garage and realised my MOT had lapsed by 3 months,, whoops it does actually give you an MOT reminder as well i Just stupidly ignored it as i had a very busy week and needed my van , but then forgot to book it in! I would imagine that app still relies on it being registered correctly in the first place though Daniel so still always best to ask 😆 😆

Jamie, you were lucky not to have been stopped the number of police cars now fitted with numberplate recognition, my road tax was out of date by about 4 months without me realising & I was surprised I didn’t get stopped during that time, I don’t pay road tax but I would still have got fined for it being out of date :blushing:
