German style numberplate embossing and hot stamping machines
Hi
Where can i get a machine to make embossed number plates and the hot stamping machine to apply the black topping….
And how much are these machines, i need one to take to car shows…Cheers

and just to point out that if you do number plates with this method at a show, be prepared for a big fine.Peter

you can buy these machines for making plates, they use proper fonts and sizes, they have reflective back grounds too.
Plus have a gb badge at the front…
What could be illegal about that 😀

I am not certain but I think embossed number plates are now illegal
except on vintage vehicles of a certain agePeter

Unless, of course, you are putting them on a German registered car.

Thing is we live in a crazy over regulated society these days where it may not be illegal to sell a piece of equipment but may well be illegal to use it. Our power mad political masters are so "up themselves" that they have created numerous new laws that means most of us carry out a criminal act most days without even realising it.
Time to get rid of the current crop of half wits trying to run this country and vote in the other crop of half wits that are desperate for power :lol1: 🙄
As for number plates – forget it – there are far more lucrative avenues you could explore – number plates are dead in the water these days.

As far as I am aware the german plates are issued by their area registration office, similar to America, the plates are not available from any other source.

UK plates need to meet BS145d, pressed plates do not meet the criteria of that BS. Also black & silver plates are only legal on pre 1973 vehicles
In Brief
All registration marks including marks purchased through DVLA’s sales scheme must bedisplayed in accordance with The Road Vehicles (Display of Registration Marks) Regulations 2001(obtainable from Her Majesty’s Stationery Office).Rules for the display of number plates are set out in law, briefly these are: –
l A number plate must be displayed at the front and rear of motor vehicles (with someexceptions).
l Number Plates must be easy to read and meet the British Standard.
l Lettering should be black on a white plate at the front and a yellow at the rear.
l The background surface should be reflex-reflecting but the characters must not.
l There are separate requirements for traditional number plates displayed on vehiclesconstructed before 1 January 1973.
l Lettering and spacing must be of a set size. They must conform to one of the groups shownat:- Number plates fitted after 1 September 2001 or Number plates fitted before 1September 2001.Kev

As a registered number plate supplier myself, I can confirm that the law changed in November 2008 so plates that do not comply to BSAU 145d cannot be produced without documents. Therefore even showplates are now illegal to manufacture. The exception being plates WITHOUT registrations numbers on. A sticker on the back of the plate stating "FOR OFF ROAD USE ONLY" is not a valid exemption.
Half the time, you cannot even buy blank plates from suppliers without them having your RNPS details on file. Then, the serial numbers / batch numbers, purchase dats and other information on the plates are linked to your RNPS details. This means you can’t claim you made them before the date of the law change!
The fine for producing a plate that is illegal is £2500 and your RNPS registration revoked for up to 5 years.
This has presented a lot of numberplate suppliers with major problems, some gave up making them, others carry on making illegal plates. I expect when the show season starts there will be DVLA staff out and about handing out fines and possibly confiscating equipment as it’s the first shows since the law changed.
I don’t expect to be able to make many plates at shows this year as customers rarely carry their V5c. I’m changing what I do at shows somewhat to offset the losses.
I seem to recall the presses costing in the region of £5k and have no idea where to get the german character dies….
