• Gerber Pricing

This question is aimed at Gerber users.

How do you cost your jobs. It’s quite easy to work out the the quantity of vinyl and foils used and therefore the net cost.

So what sort of mark-up do you apply for spot & CMYK? Do you usually impose minimum quantities?

I understand there are ‘job’ calculators to be had but not sure if it’s easier to price jobs individually – Excel is quite easy to use too 🙂

I just took some samples that took me all weekend to create 🙂 (due to my lack of software skills) up to the South Wales Police procurement department. They were impressed and asked how much £ £ ? They require short run stuff tailored to specific needs. But it’s a start.

I’m not sure ? I could compete with the big guns on the ‘run of the mill’ H&S signage using a Gerber. However, the force buy quite a lot.

    Cheers

    John

Hi John, good to see you are up and running, the gerber is a difficult one to price because of its uniqueness, it depends on the job and the market forces, for instance you will never compete in full colour, its not worth the time ane effort of changing foils potentially tiling work etc, however when it comes to printing labels especially if they need to be durable or you have to print in white or gold or another metallic colour then you will have the upper hand.
There are still quite a few of these being used but most have been sold to third or fourth users by now or are just sat in the corner of a studio gathering dust.

I tend to price most of the work on the Edge per metre, my material cost is approx £1 per metre for the foils and vinyl – 75p, we work around the £25 mark for ‘proper’ work again depending on the number of colours etc.

Very simple stuff e.g labels £15 metre, if we have to apply an abrasion guard an extra £10 per metre.

These aren’t fixed and artwork is extra, there are so many issues with Edge like extra passes and you need to consider this when pricing up a job as well.
