  • Gerber plotter – how do I alter pressure please ?

Posted by Saph-D on February 2, 2008 at 6:55 pm

    Hi all,

I’ve not had to do this before ! For some reason all of the vinyl I’ve used have tended to have the same settings, but I’ve just done some cuts on a black Avery vinyl and it cut right through.

I presume the little black box with the dial on is the pressure settings, it is currently set at 2, can anyone just kick me in the right direction with it please ? I don’t see a test cut function – do I go down to number one for a lower pressure or up towards number 7 ?

    Many thanks in anticipation 🙂

Hi Saph, you need to reduce the pressure down towards 1……not too much tho.

It’s probably the vinyl as it’s more than likely thinner than what your used to cutting

Saph the presure is adjusted using the menu buttons on the plotter, the numbers on the blade holder are just an indication how for out the blade protrudes, for cutting different thicknesses of material.

sorry thought you had a gerber envision,,

    Hi Peter and Neil,

Thanks for your replies. I am using a Gerber GSxplus and don’t see anything on the menu area to alter the pressure ?

I have four buttons to the left which are:

reset – init knife – run cont – run single

Then further to the right I have the arrow keys and the centre button which says ‘slow’.

Other than that all that I can see is the dial on the blade holding unit with a button on the rear which turns the dial.

I altered the dial from 2 down to 1.5 and it still cut through, I am not positive, but it looked as though it cut the image twice. I halted it as soon as I saw it was cutting right through the vinyl again.

It’s currently cutting a roll of reknown white vinyl which has been printed with no probs, so it’s obviously the thickness of the Avery vinyl. I know I often alter the settings on my standard cutter but as I said, first time on the Gerber.

When this roll has gone through, I’ll have another go with the dial turned down to one, or less and see what happens.

Thanks again guys, I appreciate it.

    Hi,
Not familiar with the GSX but I have the GS15 plus, Does the GSX not have a manual winder on the back of the blade holder.

Hi Saph, try cutting a circle or something else. The vector you are using might have been copied over the top creating to cuts but you only see one. Or click on your image and delete to see if there is another underneath.

Most setting are best on the cutter but you could check if you are using the program settings which you can alter there too. What software is it?

All the settings are done on the cutter, the dial on the side of the cutting head will adjust the pressure (0 being lowest) and maybe an idea to wind the blade back in a bit too you don’t need it out as much as cuts the backing as well.
