Has anyone got a later version they wish to sell?
Called Spandex for an upgrade price from 2.51 and was a little shocked.

They never contacted me after buying the machine and software for 5 years then out of the blue called and offered an upgrade from 1.56 to 2.51 for 250.00

Seems they are version 5 now and the step up is a fortune. Either find version 3 or 4 or move to signlab

    It’s a dilemma isn’t it?

And if you run it on more than one PC, you have to buy multiple copies at the same price, they don’t even do a bundle deal.

I remember that. A bit sad when you’ve been a customer for over 20 years and spent several mortgages with them, that they can’t find an easier way foor you to run their software, especially on multiple machines with full function.

Sometimes seems to me it’s a case of trying to wring every last drop out of you

I’ve used Omega since it was known as Graphix Advantage many moons ago (I seem to remember version 6.1?), and always bought every upgrade there ever was, for me it has always been money well spent as the Edge has made me a lot of money, and the upgrades always had something new that would make my job easier.

I currently have 4 dongles, and I work on my own, two at work on two separate pcs, one at home and a spare one just in case, and I don’t regret the money spent on them as I always had brilliant support both from Spandex in the UK and Gerber in the USA (for which I also did some beta testing on the software).

Same has applied to programs such as MS-DOS (remember that?), Windows, Coreldraw, etc. If it makes my job easier and earns me money, why not spend the cash and support the people that make the programs?
After all, if you were a builder you’d be expected to pay for the drills & tools, or a mechanic with their spanners, or a painter with their brushes?

    Just my opinion…

Hi George, I understand what you are saying and I too love the software. Its just the company that sells it here are a pain to deal with. My gripe is that they never inform you of an upgrade when its out. In my case I have missed a few that’s why it will cost me a fortune.

700.00 for an upgrade on Omega or go with Signlab for just over half that money as a brand new package

I agree with George on this one, a quality product, I’ve settled on 3 but when I buy another Edge I’ll upgrade and buy a second one.

Signlab doesn’t give you the thermal package in that price (I might be wrong). I suppose the ‘annoying’ bit when purchasing Gerber is there is no negotiation or deal to be had 🙁 Once you’ve accepted that (it took me a while) then you value it more.

You have to admire Gerber for sticking to their guns on price etc. It does prevent just anyone getting into the trade with their products and you have to show a commitment if you want to use these very specialised pieces of kit.

    Good luck with this Chris.
