  • Gerber GSX Plus cutting problem, advice please?

Just wondering if anyone has had this problem. The cutter will cut for the first 40cm, it continues moving but the blade is raised and it no longer cuts the vinyl. Only happened today, rebooted the cutter, still the same. Will reboot the PC. Running Omega, no changes to anything except a new roll of vinyl, really odd??

    Any suggestions?

only a guess from my experiences jason, could there be a miss match between page sizes of plotter and program.

Thanks Chris, got in early this morning to double check. I rebooted my system and it seems to be working now. I think it must have been the PC (which we do neglect), as we are Mac based we don’t tend to shut this one down much and I think with Photoshop, Illustrator, Omega plus other packages running at the same time it just gave up 😀

    Fingers crossed.

Looks like the restart didn’t make much difference, it started doing it again, anyone hazard a guess as to why it would start to play up like this?

Just bumping this, spoke to an engineer today regarding a seperate problem and while I had the chance I asked him about this recurring problem.

What is actually happening is the knife is slowly rising as the cutter performs its cutting cycle. This is because the ‘concentric’ bar the knife holder is sitting on is not moving where it should be moving – I think.

I’m not happy, the cutter has had very little use over the last 4 years and was bought new. So I have two questions:

    1. Has anybody experienced this problem before.

    2. Can anyone recommend a specialist to repair this. I know Spandex will fix it, I’m hoping they’ll lend me a spare while they repair it?? Do printone repair these?? Anywhere else?? Or is there an easy fix?

Fortunately I have the graphtec cutting all my gerber graphics at the moment but it struggles with anything over 2metres.

    Jason,
Which driver do you use from the list available in Gsplot to cut on the graphtec instead of the GSX15. My GSX is painfully slow in cutting and i wanted to be able to cut on my Graphtec CE3000 Mk2 (HPGL). I’ve selected the one or two in the list but they just cut small letters, this looks like the wrong device with the wrong language to the plotter.
I could go through each one until i found the right one but i noticed you’re cutting using the Graphtec as well.

    Thanks in advance,
    Alex.

alex if the graphtec is just trying to cut small letters then it is normally the wrong language.
see if the plotter is set to GPGL or HPGL CM2 wants GPGL

Hi Alex, I use cutting master in illustrator, then print on my Edge through Omega. Very quick. Do you have your speed set to a 100% for your cutter though??

    Thanks for replies,
I normally cut from Cutting master 2 via corel, the graphtec is set to HPGL and works fine this way.
I was just wondering if i could use my graphtec to cut out my EdgeFX printed graphics instead of the GSX plotter directly from GSplot. There is lot if devices listed in GSplot (including the CE3000-60) but i suspect it’s the wrong language going to the plotter that’s making it print the small letters.
The GSX is set at 100% speed in the panel by the way.

No not from GSPLOT as it won’t recognise the printer marks, these have to be setup in cutting master then printed on the Edge and then cut. It does work fine and is very quick when you cut.

    Ah i see,
I was hoping just to use the bomb sight the same way as the GSX to align the blade to the center of the GSX reg mark. I know it would take a little messing and tracking up but I’ve never been successful in using the optical sensor on my graphtec to read the printed marks, I’ve given up trying really.

It’s very straight forward, just make sure you choose reg marks 2, use layers so you keep your print/cut and print marks seperate. Ensure you select the appropriate layer in cutting master. Tick the document origin box and make sure you read all four print marks and off you go. Crank the speed up and just think of the amount of money you will save if you ever need to change your GSX plotter or pay for any maintenance work
    😀 😀
