There is a new gerber edge just been announced the “Gerber edge fx” no improvement to resolution – same as edge 2, but have improved print registration problems by being able to sense foil length, colour and thickness, have changed the design of the cartridges though so will not compatible with existing edge products!

I might be wrong but seems like you might have a Gerber Edge.

What are in real terms the running costs of a Gerger Edge.

    Goop.

ill be making a post on something to do with edge prints later.
    till then, when you say

    quote :

being able to sense foil length

do you mean how much ribbon is left on roll?
if so, i spoke to someone from europoint & they supply signfoils. same thing, edge ribbon. anyway, it had a feature on it that lets you know how much/little is left on the ribbon roll at a glance.

not being an edge user thats about all i can add, but in my opinion, these days, these machines are just top end label printers, when compared to the speed and ease of the solvent print and cut machines. (just my opinion of course..) 🙄

There is a link to the http://www.gspinc.com/products/printers/edgefx.asp
    Gerber Edge FX.

We use a Gerber Edge here at my work. Like Robert said, it is a great label maker. 😀

I can’t comment on other printers as this is the only one I have used. It is definitely easy to use. I am printing a blank check on it right now. You know the checks they give out at press conferences and such? It’s going to be 2’x5′ edge print mounted on 1/4″ foam board. They only have a printing area of 11.8 so I have to make it a two panel job.

As far at the foil length goes, Gerber did come out with the “Gerber Gauge” this past year which is basically just a number printed on the bottom edge of the foil that will tell you how much you have left in yards and meters. The new machine will be able to determine this automatically without you having to look at the roll at all. It will also know what color you have in so you won’t put the wrong one in on accident. In my opinion, if you already own an Edge this won’t be on your list of things to buy next year. Hope some of this info helps.

I dont think that any benefits on the fx will send edge owners out to buy this, it seems that they are just correcting one of the main problems with the edge 1 and 2 ie poor registration, perhaps they should offer it as a free upgrade!.
We have just upgraded to the edge 2 from the edge 1, and spent a lot of time looking at various printers – really wanting to go to wide format, obviously quality of print the edge can’t touch, but for us we supply alot to trade and specialise in a turning out anything required within one or two days max. and we are incredibly busy. Drying times on prints from the printers like the cadet would just not work for us at all, we need to print and then lay them down immediately. Most of our signs our being packaged within an hour of being printed. In the four and a half years ive personally making signs with the edge and and a plotter, we have had turn away just half a dozen jobs. I guess different equipment suits different people, for us nothing else could compare with the edge. But obviously It has its faults like anything else.
Running costs i think depends on what you do with it, we get a nice discount on book prices because of the volume of our orders.
