Garment vinyl for Nylon garments
Posted by Hugh Potter on October 29, 2012 at 2:05 pmHi all,
I’m looking for some garment vinyl to go onto waterproof (100%) nylon jackets. I have had mixed success in the past.Ideally a reflective but, having had that fail (big time) before, I’ll be happy with a white, all I’m bothered about is that it is guaranteed to stick to nylon!
thanks,
Hughps, normally use grafytip ps range.

if you can get some acetone from the chemist give the area a wipe before applying nyloflex or grafiflex extra
-
is that safe? I don’t want to wreck a customers £60 jacket!

they often put a coating on outdoor garmets like hi viz etc.
As it says on the tin, always test a small area first
Use acetone to remove garment film too

Hi Hugh
we too have had some failures with nylon.
we always say we can put something on nylon but cannot say how long it lasts for… kinda get out of jail card.

Any waterproof garment would need the nylon extra material, as the adhesive is designed to sit on top of the waterproof coating.

As Nigel has said, grafiflex extra (nylon film) will do but do not over cook. A light pressing so the adhesive sticks to the garments coating on top rather than spreading with heavy press

it was the grafiflex extra I used before, couple of years ago now on two jackets the same as I now have, one has lasted, the other ‘fell off’ within a couple of months. maybe I pressed it too hard, I do remember it was a pig to stay on at the time (when peeling backing).
I’ll get some in on my next order if the customer is happy to try it.

Hugh you have to pre-press the nylon extra before giving it the full press, we can send you the application instructions when you order or sooner if you want.
