• Garment Film Problem

Just had a customer call to say the white logos I pressed onto his Polo shirts has discoloured to a cream colour after the first wash. Has anyone had this before?

Also what methods do people use to stop Polo shirt buttons pressing through the back print?

not had any problems with cut stuff discolouring , anything can happen with the printable rubbish.
use a padded cushion in side the shirt.

Sounds like he stuck them in the tumble dryer. Do a small test yourself and see if it happens with you, if it does customer has no comeback.

Never had that myself Paul. Chatting to a customer over the weekend who I did some FOTL navy blue polos for last summer with a design front and back and the vinyl is as white as the day I pressed them. He’s worn them almost every day and they get chucked in the tumble dryer regularly.

Have you changed your vinyl supplier recently or did the supplier send a bad batch maybe?

My well water has a high iron content and turns anything white an orangey color after one wash.
    Could this be it?

One of my customers has had the same set of t-shirts for over 2 years, he wears one every day for work (builder) he washes them at 60 and puts them in the tumble dryer, all the colours are the same as the day i pressed them, t-shirt is now sky blue when it started out navy..
I would do a tester and wash it a few times and see what happens..
sure his misses ain’t scorched them with the iron

Just split the garment and pull the back over the top of the base with the front pulled underneath the base, that’s unless it’s a kids garment or very small adults

Have never had a problem with vinyl discolouring, so can´t help with this.
Very occasionally I´ve had the odd letter come off even though the same batch of shirts have been pressed the same length of time, temperature, pressure etc. Inexplicable!
Generally polos have only a small logo on front. I do them on the left-hand corner of the press with the buttons off the press. For large stuff on the back you can just separate the back from the front and slide onto the press. Some garments are too small to do this, so as has been suggested, put a padded cushion or a piece of thick card, or a mousemat inside the shirt under the area to be pressed.
Up until a few months ago I´ve always used 60 microns vinyl. (In my opinion the 120 microns Poliflex or similar brand is rubbish. Difficult to see the cut marks when weeding, doesn´t cut tiny lettering, and cracks badly).
I now buy Stahls Premium vinyl which is fairly new on the market. Can be ironed directly on top and doesn´t crack. I highly recommend it. I buy it here in Spain but it´s available in the UK from Target Transfers. Give them a call. The´re always extremely helpful and might be able to explain your discolouring problem.

I’ve never seen this discoloring issue so can’t help but I can agree with Chris – the Target premium films are very good and I am moving over to them.

sorry off topic reply to chrisA and alan

i started using targets premium and thought if to be the last word in garment marking, until i got fresh stock in.
the carrier film would not come off or very difficult target tried to help but not to my satisfaction, ( well no body else is complaining ) still using some of the original stock which is just superb but had to shift to the best of the spandex range,
