  • Garment film failure at heat press stage..

Posted by Hugh Potter on October 23, 2018 at 9:53 pm

    Hi all,
Anyone seen this before? Just cost me about 4mtrs of film and £40 of wages for this.. not to mention potential re-ordering garments.

Xpres easy peel (something like that) awdi hoodie..

Seems like an unusual amount of fluff on the garment is preventing the vinyl from adhering.. followed destructions on the film and heatpress bang on temp +\- a few degs as expected during use..

Do I complain to xpres film or awdi / Ralawise for the contamination / detritus on the clothing?

Don’t have time for this #*@#

    Hugh
I am afraid I haven’t seen this one before and to be honest I would think each of the manufacturers would say the other is faulty.
Saying that I would start at Ralawise as the vinyl has stuck in places.
Also is it the same place each time? What press have you got? Could the element have a cold spot? The cheaper Chinese presses sometime have two separate elements one for each side of the heat plate.

Try the print on a similar type of garment does it stick? if it does it’s the garment if it doesn’t it’s the vinyl, just a thought

We print load of AWDis items everyday and not seen this one.

As all suggest above would be my first thoughts. However if the garment was that fluffy it would be noticeable and you should also be able to pluck that fluff of with your hands if it’s that bad.
Could be a cold spot on the heat press.

Personally I think you will find it’s the material and not enough adhesive on it. I would move to siser products.

Run over it with a sticky roller the type they use for removing hairs from garments, take the excess fluff off before putting the vinyl on, the rollers are very cheap and refills even cheaper.

Most of it is peeling off with a bit of work- not that I have time to waste on it!

Heat press is fine, 30+ yr old Adkins press .. laser gun says temps fine.

The sister film used is not bother, only have this tat as I bought it with an order from Ralawise.

Suspect just lint from manufacturing or warehouse, a lint roller crossed my mind but the horse has bolted.. just don’t need the grief right now!

I use a sticky roller, the ones you use for removal of cat, dog hairs. Picks everything up. I would assume its the finish on the tops, ive had similar and my roller cleared it for pressing

I feel your pain Hugh. Done a pile of gowns for a barbers shop and the vinyl more of less fell off!!! I 1st blamed the customer for tumble drying the gowns but on closer inspection it just didn’t stay stuck. Have never seen this happen before. They came off without a trace!
