  • Frosted over text

    Hi
I have a 3m x 1m frosted window to do but there is also a lot of text to go inside, if i fit both to the inside of the window will it look bad where the frosted overlaps the text?

Or should i fit the text to the outside?

    Cheers
    Lee

Put the etch on first then fit the lettering. This looks classy.

    Hi Karl
Do you mean fit both on the inside so from the outside the text will be visible through the frosted

Yes mate. Fit the frosted as you would normally then fit the lettering to the back of the frosted as you would normally do on glass. Gives a nice slight blur round the edges.

Lee putting the frosted over the top of the text can sometimes give you problems around the edges of the letters especially if the text is quite small. I would have a little play and make yourself up a small panel to see for yourself.
Other options are to cut the text out of the frosted fit that and then fit the lettering into the spaces or fit the etch on the inside and the text on the outside, if you can do that then that is what I would do because it also gives the effect that the text has some depth to it.

Have to be honest I have never seen it done the way Karl has suggested but if Karl says it looks good then I would be happy to believe him.

I would say the ‘proper’ way to do it would be to cut the lettering out of the etch, fit that to the window and then inlay the coloured vinyl into the etch. Its more work, but thats the only way to do it and achieve 100% results.
We sometimes cut the etch with a bigger outline so when you inlay the colours you get a slight clear gap around the edges, makes the text stand out more.
