    Hi All

I need to make a 2m wide x 1m high mounted print (probably 5mm foamex), customer wants it freestanding so I need to create an "easel" type stand or something similar so these can be stood up.

Any bright ideas? Thought of bending ACM in to an easel shape, any ideas on stand or better option for a material to mount the prints on to.

    cheers

    Warren

Would one of these not be allowed? Neat and cheap as chips.

For inside our out Warren? 5mm foamboard will be very wobbly over that length, if not supported in some way.
Does it need to be seen from both sides or just one? If one-sided, some sort of stand like those very inexpensive upright banner supports, but on it’s side may work, with a bit of fabrication (as long as it is for indoor use) 😉

Harry’s idea will work on ACM.

offer them too, a bit more decorative in annodised aluminum, a bit more expensive also… but worth it for the likes of a showroom etc

I source them in Dublin, I’m sure somebody does them over there. From 15 euro up (approx) from what I remember. They start at around a foot wide.
Somebody else posted a knacky way of folding correx into a freestanding triangle shape too, by cutting one side of the flute. Handy if the budget is tight.

    Signwaves do small oves.

This looks not bad for the money – obviously you would need 2 one either end.

Thanks guys but these are for a 3 day show and not to be used again so looking for something more "cost effective"

anybody got any ideas for a "home made" solution?

Can’t use correx for boards but could use Kappa if better?

Hi warren, you could use correx and strengthen the back with off cuts of 5mm or 10mm foam if you have any? We have done that before for short term stuff? does that make sense, my bits of wood were 12 euros each, so you could make some and loan them to the client?

    cheers

don’t really have the equipment to do wooden stuff or know if any chippies either.

My thoughts are a piece of ACM with a V groove to create a bend, VHB tape it to the rear of the panel and VHB tape a pice of 10mm foamex to that to create a "leg" similar to an easel style support for small desk top displays? I can cut a small angle to the bottom of the 10mm foamex so it leans back slightly?

make sense? or am I mad?

No i think that would work, I am all for using off cuts etc, we have used hinges with short screws into 10mm foam glued onto the back of correx before, then used another piece of 10mm with a string, (to stop it sliding away) so its supports its own weight. (bit like an easel). We made some big ice creams etc printed onto correx and cut out by hand with this method for a low budget customer, they werent something to be super proud of, but they did the job, everyone happy! If that doesnt make sense i’ll try a find a photo.

    Goodluck

i am imagining one vgroove bend all the way across the bottom and then you could do 2 more thin ones(going on other direction) slightly further up to give it more stability (if its a bit wobbly), and then if you give them a couple of velcro dots to stick to the underside and the floor, it wont go anywhere! photo please if you do make frankensign!!

    cheers

something like this? re reading my post it doesnt make much sense!!

Black acm vbend all along the bottom
red is the correx with vinyl etc
blue is the thin Z shape strengthener!

    cheers

yeah that will work too, thanks Dan, I’ve quoted customer both options and have tried to get them to go for off the shelf ones knowing they can re-use them so hopefully they see value in them and go for it otherwise I’ll post up my "Frankenstein" if I make it come "ALIVE" 😮 :lol1:

    Thanks Dan

Hi Warren. Just thinking how I may tackle this. How about an M shape, but the outsides of the M spread wider.
Cut 2 ‘V’ groves equal distance in from outer edges, underside, ‘V’ groove centre on top side, fold into ‘M’ shape. Length determined by board size.
Place board into centre of ‘M’, drill holes through all 3 pieces in middle of ‘M’ and fix using short plastic nuts and washers/ wing nuts at either end of each ‘M’ used.
Use some method to stop legs of the support from spreading and to maintain balance.
(I will leave this bit to you, I will get to stage 2 tomorrow, lol!)
    Reuse able, cheap, and signeable!

Maybe sounds rubbish, but would work if size vs weight of board is correct.
