Can any of you guys/gals point me in the right direction for suppliers of Aluminium Frames

The frames are the ones that are fixed to the wall and the sign slides in, similar to the frames that Rob made in his Demo.

    Thanks
    Iain

iain you will find most good suppliers offer this. its called panatrim but depending on who/where you buy it, it will have its own name. bit like dibond, rynabond, leboard, alucolour etc all based on same sort of make up but made slightly different. does the same job at the end of the day.
companies like amari plastics, cox (maybe) europoint display and so on…
i buy ours from multi metals. not sure if there is a branch near you though… 😕

Depending how big your sign is..SMP (sign Makers products) can supply the whole thing to you..perspex/panatrim etc ready for you to vinyl..it may cost you a little more i suppose as a complete sign, but if it’s a one off it might be worth a try..

On the few signs we make we always use the Kestrel Signframe down at the bottom of the above page. It’s a better frame than Panatrim or its clones and costs a bit more but erection is quicker, which offsets this to some degree.

    I hate Panatrim!!!!!

I order mine from Amari with panels when they turn up i apply vinyl and go and fit, no messing with cutting panels mitres etc. 5.3mtr by 760mm works out at approx £175 for frame and panel complete with fitted hanging strip & rebated joint. May cost slightly more but i can be out securing more work or designing etc and when it turns up i just have to apply design and fit. I work on my own so have to make the most of my time and the space i have and i have found this to be a good way of doing it.

    Robert,

We always buy them made up because Kestrel have better equipment and more experience than we do in making up frames. However, whether you buy made up or assemble yourself doesn’t really matter. The difference is that they use a three piece extrusion which is a lot more rigid than Panatrim. In my opinion it gives a frame that looks and feels better quality than the cheaper one piece alternatives.

Our usual supplier of panatrim frame couldnt get an order we needed urgently to us for almost a fortnight … no good to us when we needed it by the end of this week. So, on Tuesday afternoon … late afternoon at that, I browsed the boards to see which suppliers our members recommend for frames and other sign supplies etc. I noticed that Cherwells crop up a fair bit, so it seemed a good idea to give them a call and see if they could help out? Well, we were really pleasantly suprised when they told Steve they could get the goods delivered to us on Thursday (today) and that their standard turn around for frames is usually 2 – 3 days!!!

As promised, the frame and sign panels arrived in today before lunch time and they look great!! It has saved our bacon!! Cherwells will now be getting more business from us and they were really good to deal with too …. so I just wanted to give them a :thumbup2: and say thanks to all members that are happy to recommend their suppliers!!

    😀

    ok babble over … sorry!!

As I mentioned in the Sign mag this month, Cherwell’s have looked after me in the past. I find them very reliable, if they say a date they stick to it.

We have been using Cherwell for over 5 years now, can’t remember ever having any problems with them, use them for most of our supplies based on their service (although not always the cheapest!).
