  • FOR SALE – 56 Reg Vauxhall Combo

Posted by Phill Fenton on November 29, 2007 at 10:01 am

Anyone interested in buying a 1 year old Vauxhall Combo Van.

This was left with us last Thursday to have signs fitted on Friday. We phoned the company on Friday afternoon to tell them it was ready but no one collected it so I locked it up and stored it in our unit over the weekend.

On Monday I phoned them again to remind them we still have their van.

It’s now Thursday (1 week since the van was first dropped off) and still no one has collected it.

I reckon they’ve probably forgotten all about it so I have decided to sell it

    Best offer?

I can tell you stories of vans ordered too early by a leasing company that sat here from February to August one year.

Or the Transit chassis cab delivered here by mistake. As it happened we were waiting for one of those so we didn’t think anything of it. When we eventually realised we had got the wrong vehicle we rang the leasing company and they said they would sort it out. Two days later the right vehicle appeared, but nobody collected the first. After a month I rang again, and could almost hear the sigh of relief that they had found a missing Transit. They had no idea where it was, and I could have sold it no problem.

We get both extremes. Sometimes vans can sit here for a month or more, completed and awaiting collection. Other times we get the locals telling me we must be quiet because the same vans are parked out front for week after week, when in fact they are different vans being cycled every day as completed vans go and are replaced by more new ones.

As it is, today we have VW Crafters parked outside which are not due to be delivered to the end user until January and February, and will sit here until then.

It’s not a problem to us in that we have the space, but what I have to watch is that we always have sufficient insurance cover for all the vans in our custody and control, because the values can get eye watering.

How long would you hold on to something valuable that hasnt been collected, is there any laws governing this?

I have a friend who owns a large storage depot. A guy brought in a Marlin Rib boat (30k worth) and paid a years storage upfront. Never came back for it and 2 years later my mate still has the boat, can’t get in contact with the guy and hasn’t been paid any storage fees for the last year. He hasn’t saw the guy since he towed the boat into the yard. It checks out fine with the police so it isn’t stolen. His lawyer is looking into what he can do so next summer we could be cruising up the Clyde in it 😀

damn, i wondered where i’d left my boat, i didn’t want the mrs noticing i’d blown £30k, so hid it and all the paperwork, but forget where the heck they both were, would he be so kind as to courier it down for the weekend? i’ll paypal the ten squid for the courier!

ps, don’t check under the floor panels, thats the whole reason i disappeared for a while, the columbians might find me if it’s in the papers!!!

It’s still available by the way – I phoned them again yesterday but they still haven’t picked it up. It’s locked away in my unit again this weekend if anyone’s interested in viewing it.

I must say – I’m tempted by the Virgin Mary Statues and Hair dye but I’m still holding out hoping for a slightly better offer 😮

On the subject of ‘dumped’ vans.

I quite often get vans dropped off a couple of days before I had scheduled to do the job because they "had a driver available"…and it’ll sit there for another week because, yup you guessed it.."we don’t have a driver available".

When pressed to "come & get your stuff as we’ve got several vans already inside the unit at night", it’s always met with a "just leave them outside then". Are they NUTS!?! It’s a semi-deserted industrial area that’s a ‘bit dark’ and has the local chavs doing donuts round the car parks. I couldn’t live with myself. Even when it’s established that it’s on THEIR insurance as it’s at their behest & not on our liability. Suppose it’s not a big deal (one van)- when they keep maybe 100 new vehicles in their open yard every day & night…in an equally dark & chav ridden industrial area!

phil… i have the perfect swap for you…

have you ever consider an animal to guard your premises ? i think i have just the thing,

i went and collected a load of live mussels (for bait) from the beach yesterday, and brought them all home, whilst removing them from the shells, i came across about a dozen which were playing host to little hard backed crabs, only about 15mm across, and boy were they angry that i’d entered their home!! mini claws up and shouting all kinds of obscenities,

they’re currently residing in their little shell homes (food on tap i guess) in a shallow tray of sea water in the bait fridge, and they do get mad if i open their lid to see them, i reckon they’d make awesome pets or guard crabs for your business, they have their own food supply, and need only a little seawater drink each day,

    whadaya say pal?

(ps, they’ll be going home tomorrow when i have a league match, but i thought i’d offer the chance before i leave)

religion will only bring wars and unhappiness in the long run, it’ll come and go, crabs wil be here long after, and you can look down from erm… your star, and tell your buddies that you helped to keep them going!
