• Font manager trouble!

Posted by Martin Cole on March 2, 2007 at 12:44 pm

    Hello folks,
    trust you are all well.

Don’t know if anyone can help me, but I seem to have lost my fonts in S/LAB 5, when I try re-installing them I get an unknown font manager error come up with (80000008)

I installed my phone software this morning with a little trouble and since then my fonts have legged it

    😕

IT, is not my strong point by any means, so any ideas would be much appreciated.

    Martin

Yo Martinos hows tricks/ the only thing i can suggest is to do a system restore to yesterday or closest you can and see if its the phone software or even uninstall phone software and see if you can reinstall fonts. Depends how important the phone software is over the signlab 😕

sorry probably need better advice off one of the geeks

    ………… so you’re not a geek? 😮

Martin, if a system restore doesn’t work you could try reinstalling signlab… 😕

Georgio me boy, I’m good thanks..

Or I was until this happened, tried doing what you suggested to no avail,
just don’t know what the hell I’ve done and can’t see why the phone software would have affected it 😕 just seems strange I lost fonts after it was installed. 🙁 🙁

    Hi Nick,
I do have XP, I take it a system restore putting your clock back prior to trouble and rebooting the computer? Which is what I did.

    Hi Marcella,
If it comes to that I guess thats what I will have to do.

Martin, you need to do this… start > All progs > accessories >System tools > System restore… then go back to when it was all working ok you will keep all you work ok

found this on another sign forum

I’m afraid I can’t offer much help, but a few suggestions.

First, you may want to right click on start, explore, signlab5/ fonts, and see if your .vef fonts(signlab fonts) are in there per your reload of signlab. If so, open signlab and go to file/install/fonts, and in the left top make sure your cadlink vef font box is checked. Doesn’t hurt to check true type or the other two boxes. Next click the search now box. This should list all the fonts available to use. Click install all and you should be able to use the fonts. I don’t know if this will solve your problem.

Also you can try cadlinks site, http://www.cadlink.com. You will have to register first, it’s free and will take a couple minutes. I’d post a link but it wouldn’t be available being a registered area of the site.

When you get registered, go to support and training/knowledge base. In this area it says search support. Type in your error message in the first box, and in the drop down box next to it find signlab 5x. Click search, and there are several tech notes there that may solve your problem.

Maybe someone else can figure this out in the meantime, if all else fails call cadlink tomorrow early, and you’ll probably have to leave a message and they’ll get back to you. I’ve found signlab support to be excellent when I’ve had problems in the past.

    and this

If I remember right—always room for doubt there—- the fonts have to be loaded into the Windows fonts folder, as well as Signlabs fonts folder. Don’t know why, it seems redundant.

Anyway, if Signlab fonts folder shows the fonts to be present, the I’d check to see if they are present in the Windows fonts folder. If not, then you might be able to go to Signlab’s fonts folder, select all, hit copy, go back to Windows fonts and hit paste. Whether this will work or not, I can’t say, but it might be worth a shot.

I would NOT try to move Signlab’s fonts with the cut command–you might lose the whole folder if Windows won’t accept it.

I don’t think your Signlab fonts have to be in your windows fonts folder……. mine aren’t.
Just make sure your fonts are all ‘installed’ into Signlab Martin. You won’t find them until you install them there too. (In Signlab: file>install>fonts etc etc)

SL has its own font folder and it will see fonts in windows font folder well SL 7 works like that, but yes you may need to install them again.

That’ll teach for coming onto my patch and putting signs up at the bookies!

…but seriously if your stuck for time, come around to mine as I run signlab and you can cut your vinyl here.

There aren’t any beers in the fridge though so you’ll have to bring ’em.

Putting signs up on your manor, wouldn’t dream of such a thing Paul 😀
Bloody nice sign though considering it was put up in the dark 😎

May I thank everyone for their advice, tryed allsorts and basically I knackered!! nothing is happening. I just cannot re-install the fonts.

Got a busy day and can’t get my head around it at the moment.
Thankfully I’ve cut all I need for today so will sit down later and think again or cry 😥

    Many Thanks 😀

    Hi Martin,

The following tech note seems relevant:

    http://www.cadlink.com/support_train/te … hp?tn=2122

The first bit of advice about the "dao36.exe" should do the job. Please let me know.

    Cheers,

Martin, had the exact same error as you did and no fonts, another signshop i know told me to install the s/l demo then reinstall the full signlab, worked a treat all ok now, why it does this font error thing i dont know but it seems a common thing.

    Thanks for the link Rod,

Tried the first bit downloading ‘dao 36.exe’ and didn’t work, I couldn’t understand the bit about deleting parts so I just re-installed S/lab and all seems fine so far, fingers crossed.

Again many thanks for everyones help.
