Tried to match and I’m coming up with nothing. It’s very similar to Garamond. That "B" is very unusual though. Is that a hand painted sign maybe? Could be custom.

Think Simon might be right….unless the serif at the top right of the Y has been botched…. it looks odd…and the widths of some of the shading descenders(the B in particular) tends to suggest brushwork to me anyway.

I’d agree with Simon & Harry, looks like brushwork. Note the shadow curving up at the ends.

    quote Harry Cleary:

    😀 😀 CSI UKSB 😀 😀

And note the place……Looe, more than likely a boat, so
I would deduce that a signwriter committed this crime.

I’d say we’re looking for a graying man with paint stained clothes
and a stick with a bulbous end 😀

Too funny Harry! Yep, our CSI (Crime Sign Investigators) are tough at work cracking the case.

I think you’re right about the boat Neil. The lettering even looks as though it’s on a curved surface.

well pleased you are not bored with this one.

must admit i did not look to hard at first as i thought it was one of the rotis family. till i came to do the job.

need to make the name LOOE up that’s all so will do a bit of micky mouse lettering.

    thanks for looking

i will ask if its painted only seen the pics not the boat.

Chris could you not rebuild it?
The L and O are there and you could make the E out of an L, with a bit of slicing and dicing.
    😉
Didn’t Poe write a novel about this one…"The Purloined Serif"?
    Love….Jill
    PS
Here is a last-ditch rebuild, in case you get desperate. It ain’t purty but it’s a start.

Well Chris I would happily come over and paint it for you as long as it does not involve a dinghy.
If it helps my shoddy rebuild was done by a real sign painter.
    😳
