    Hi…..

    Is it possible to:

Router cut a di-bond butler tray ready for folding
mask and the spray the dibond reversing certain areas of brushed but predominately the tray would be the painted colour and then fold onto square section posts to form a tray on-site.
Would the tray be ok folding after being wet sprayed is what I’m trying to say [very long winded way…blah]:-?

    Cheers

    Andrew,

There doesn’t seem to have been a rush to answer your question does there? Providing the paint is keyed onto the surface there’s no reason why it wouldn’t work. I suppose the best course of action would be to do a test.

    Hi Andrew,
I don’t think you will have any joy with ordinary spray paints as they will flake and chip off, you need to add a flexible additive which one depends on which brand of paint you use. This is what they spray the moulded bumpers with so when they get nudged/bumped the paint doesn’t crack/flake.

I would avoid trying to colour di-bond unless it is by flood coating.
We’ve tried to get the stuff powder coated or painted but not with any acceptable succes.

I take it you’re going this way because it’s a really big sign?

andrew, im probbaly missing the obvious, but can you not fold assemble etc etc then mask off and spray?

as has been said, give the dibond a good rub down with flattening paper, prime and coat in 2-pak and i dont see why not. i would imagine, although factory coated, your not going to get a much better finish.

rod gray (uksg member) at archibald grays of glenboig will be able to tell you better. sign makers and coachbuilder… good sized company at that.

what i meant was, if you are going to fold the didond anyway, cannot it be pre folded? then sprayed, Andrew must have a reason to fold on site, and I was just asking why, then a more constructive solution may be submitted.

    Thanks for all your help.

I am planning on forming a monolith type sign using square section posts already on site.
The sign will be folded top, left and right and I was going to just fold on site as the structure is already there.
    I can pre fold though.
I would prefer to make it out of 11swg aluminium [rigidity and size] and spray through it if it was possible to get a brushed steel effect 😕 Trying to get a nice flat intricate sign that is mainly black with the brushed showing through.
    I’m blahing again

    Cheers

    Andrew
do you have any local metal polishers, i’ve had ali sheet polished then masked then brush polished. It was only a trial but effect was good. Its normally relatively inexpensive to have done, then just mask spray etch then a few light coats of satin black, 2 pack is the hardest

    That’s the way I would prefer to go…….Will look into doing it that way…. it’s 1500mm x 2800mm ‘ish.
