There are many suppliers who do different foam products so it may be worth shopping around or asking Rob. As with all products, length is the problem. Dibond etc comes in lengths of up to 6 metres but no one will transport it unless you order loads and even that can be a problem. It seems norm for 3050 lengths but any bigger is trouble

    Have you tried

    Amari
    Antalis
    Cox Plastics

    or Rob

Richard, as Andy has already said there are quite a few suppliers for foam but the largest they stock is 3050 x 2050 so you will have to explain to your customer that if it is to be done in foam there will have to be a join. It really depends how much money they want to spend.
If you contact different suppliers for foam prices be prepared for quite a difference between brands. But be careful as its not always best to go with the cheapest. The cheaper brands of foam have more air in their make-up which tends to make them softer and much easier to mark.

Richard, glad to hear you have sorted the problem. Just a small tip though, if in the future you have to fit a board in two or more parts due to size make sure you show the joins on any visual you show the customer.
A local signmaker I know had a customer refuse to pay for an 8 mtr facia board because it had joins in it and the drawing he had been supplied showed it as one panel. Can you imagine transporting an 8mtr one piece board !!
He did finally get paid but it took a long time and he took a reduced amount.
Since hearing this I always show any joins in boards.

Martin – I think your friend should have called the fellows bluff and removed the sign rather than accept a reduced payment. This was an obvious “try on” which unfortunately succeeded.

There seems to be a growing culture in this country of “wait until the work is done – then find fault in the hope of obtaining a discount”. Fitted carpets, floors, bespoke furniture suppliers are all victims of this type of dealing.

Something needs to be done to protect small business from the often unscrupulous and greedy general public. Much is said in the media about “the consumer” being “ripped off” by small business – but nothing is ever said about how often the small business owner is cheated by “The consumer”. 😥
