Flexisign & MAC OS 10.5

I bought Flexi 7.5 and it won’t run on my mac because it’s intel based but the 8.0 does

Give them a phone and they will give you an upgrade price though

John, it’s probably irrelevant now but I thought Flexi had always been available in either a PC or Mac format, you just had to buy the version you required.

Thanks John & Martin, my question was probably a little misleading but I’ve always run Flexi on a mac but really don’t know if 7.5 runs on MAC OS 10.5.

Perhaps I’ll ring Granthams or someone!

Just wondered if anyone at the sharp end knew the answer.

Hi Neil, I was told by GraphtecGB (main Uk distributors for FlexiSIGN)
That I if I Upgraded my G4 from 10.4 to OS 10.5 I would also have
to upgrade to version 8.5 of FlexiSIGN!
Like anything now a days always costs you double!!
Give GraphtecGB a Call or Go onto ScanvecAmiable Web to Double Check.

why not format the HD on your new iMac
abd then install the earlier 10.4 OS?
That is, if you are not trading up simply for the new features in 10.5.
OR If an Intel based iMac, perhaps it is possible to just re-partition the drive and instal the OS 10,4 of which you prob have the discs , onto one dedicated partition and run Flexi 7 in that , setting the Mac to startup in that OS.

i had a imac running 10.4 and flexi 7.5 – had nothing but problems for a year with crashing so they upgraded me free to 8.5 pro for free as they said there were know problems…………..

Well, I’ve upgraded everything. I’ve got a new Imac 24" and Flexi 8.5.

I’ve also installed VM Fusion so that I’m running XP Professional to accommodate my accounts and estimating programs. And I’ve installed Omega to run my Edge FX so things are alot easier. I can now design in Flexi and just drag the file into omega to print.

Also cuts out the need for 2 computers.

Ditched Fusion for Parallels as I found fusion very slow when opening, very very slow.

The only annoying thing with Parallels so far are the usb devices,
dongle, plotter etc aren’t loading when opening so I do it manually.
It’s ok as it’s something I just do now but I’m trying to figure it out.

Of late, my Imac has been suffering from a lot of Kernel Panics but I traced it to the Flexi dongle and I’ve updated the driver and, fingers crossed, we haven’t had a panic since.

Apart from that it all works great. 😀

Does anyone know of any way I can get a trial version of 8.5 for the mac… don’t want to just buy it without at least trying it for a while as a trial

Macs have very little problems, mostly due to software but easily solved if find the right mix

I’m using windows on my mac, nothing but errors… funny enough the same errors I get on a standard PC

Problems on a pc? never had any yet.
fires up, does the job.
like you say its down to software,
why do you need to emulate windows if mac is so good?

so why do you think that is? why not buy a pc that will run most sign programs?
why buy a mac if you cant run the programs that you use?
adobe runs on a mac so you only need a rip/cut program on mac to solve your problem, stick to mac if you prefer, cant see why you need to use pc programs as well?

why would that be an advantage for a mac?
just asking, it looks like a good animation program, but how useful for signage?

Animation? Are you looking at the right Typestyler?

The one I mean is a brilliant tool for creating logos, layouts, and all the sort of text effects held so dear by users of SignLab and Flexi. But it does them better, and at a fraction of the price.

didn’t look closer, It does look very good,
I will have a closer look,

Nah, I’m sure you can do it all in Signlab. Albeit at ten times the price. 😀

Seriously though, I’m not sure how TypeStyler stacks up as a stand-alone programme, or if it’s even meant to be one, but when used in conjunction with Illustrator, it is a very powerful piece of software.

I’ve been using it on and off for twenty years, although back then it was only for text manipulation as the print effects were of no use to me as a pure vinyl cutter.

That’s all changed now with our acquisition of a printer, and opens up a whole new world of cuttable printed decals.
