    Hey guys,

Anyone know suppliers of flex face sign systems in Australia?

Also for the skins are they just clear sheets you apply translucent media onto?

How do the prints work or are the prints directly printed onto the skins?

    Cheers
    Jason

The skin is translucent white Jason. A bit like back-lit banner material, but i think the proper grade stuff is heavier duty for large signs. it has woven material within it to prevent tearing.

I have been told by some suppliers the stuff will Never be pierced but "i know" that isn’t entirely true because there is one less that 100 yards from our work unit that is peppered with holes and has been replaced and peppered with holes again. so how do the kids do it? my opinion is there are throwing pieces of flat glass at the huge sign face. almost using the glass like a Frisbee, if that makes sense? anyway, the skins are very durable and if the likes of a brick is thrown at it, it will simply bounce off.
i guess regardless to what we use these days, if they persist in vandalising it they will eventually find a way of destroying.

you can print directly to the media using your own machine but 9/10 when i have used a flex face system the sign is far too big for my printer.
obviously the idea of the skin is to have a seem-less face. so when i buy my flexface sign system i just get the supplier to do the whole job. i.e. build the box, print the skin, "pre-assemble and check"…

like in the UK, i am sure Australia will have various different companies offering flexface systems. (if you can get hold of some) shop around for working samples or maybe even a short video on DVD of how the system works. some are very easy to use, whilst others require a bit of a knack to get it right first time. they all work on the same basis though and that’s to fit the system to the wall/building then apply the skin a bit like a drum skin. by that i mean, once in place you must "using the tensioning system" tighten the skin till it is drum tight but without wrinkles/tension lines in the face.

    hope this helps some…

    Thanks Rob and Drew.

Drew in regards to lightboxes can you build them and then have an electrician check them off? Of do you have to be an electrician to do anything in regards to light boxes?

Jason, you can get a limited electrical license to build and wire your own. Not sure whats required, but plenty of people are doing it. Might pay to ring your local building/electrical authority or TAFE.

Some shops here build the units and pay a sparky to do the final wiring, but you’d need a few boxes to make it economical.

I buy mine complete, from a lightbox manufacturer localy, so I don’t have the worry.

    Cheers
