  • Flex Face right material for this job?

    Hi,
I have a customer looking for an economical way to use the top section of the attached sign frame for an illuminated display, which could periodically be changed.

He has a lighting system (6 horizontal tubes) to go into it he says, which does not protrude out from the frame.

I am thinking of using the Spiritflex banner system (C C profile) with Flex Face banner & I’m just wondering if there could potentially be any issues if the banner was to flex under wind load & touch the tubes. could it melt for instance. How flexible is the banner?

Has anyone used it in this sort of situation.

    Myles

I doubt the skin will come into contact with the tubes mate.
though i do see your concern due to the front and rear being exposed.
that structure looks like its made from steel, so you should get a good fixing to that with your c-bar or whatever extrusion you use.
just make sure you fit it snug and i recon it will be fine as its not that big.

this is a good alternative to an acrylic panel and as you said, much more cost effective if being changed periodically. its also cost effective when you consider acrylic can easily be smashed. skins do still tear or get slashed, but your outlay replacing will be buttons in comparison.

i wouldnt say its a long term solution, but if your customer is trying to cut you down on the promise of more regular work from the same job, then explain to him you have this alternative based on what he is promising to do. if he keeps your word you will have a fresh taught skin each time and if the plastic tension straps are getting brittle, they too are cheap replaced.

this is system is very much the same as the spirit flex one.

wpuld be interested to hear how you get on with it.

Thanks for that Rob, Yes that system looks almost exactly the same as spirit flex.

My main worry was how it would hold up in gale-force winds, with being double sided & quite exposed, but I guess with the right tension it should be pretty secure, & I was thinking maybe I could put a couple of small self tapping screws through the tension strips just to ensure they wouldn’t pop out under pressure.

    Hi Derek,

Good stuff, thanks for that link, I really like the look of that system. I’m impressed with the certified pull out resistance, that would really give peace of mind in a very windy situation.

They have a great selection of profiles, think I’ll give them a call tomorrow to see what they would suggest & get some idea of costs.

Do you use the standard tension strip or their reinforced one?
