  • Flashing sign where to start?

Posted by Myles Brewer on June 15, 2009 at 8:29 pm

    Hi folks,

I have been asked by a customer to look into supplying & fitting a flashing sign to a blank part of a forecourt sign, Just looking for advice as to what I could suggest, what are the possibilities. As usual budget isn’t unlimited.

    Thanks
    Myles

If it’s neon – you can buy flashing transformers off the shelf.

If LED – you can easily get hold of a timer circuit (variable or fixed).

Don’t attempt flashing fluorescents…will likely destroy them.

    Thanks Dave,

Would there be much difference cost wise between neon & LED?

    & Dave R,

No they’re looking to have their name in lights, no ambition for fame here though :lol1:

Just a thought – you say that this sign is for part of a forecourt sign?? If you mean petrol forecourt then you’ll get in to deep doo doo with the local Highways Authority if you’re distracting traffic with a flashing sign – not to mention the regulations involved if you’re thinking about putting neon there (high voltage regulations, fireman’s switch etc etc).

I may have got completely the wrong end of the stick (not for the first time) if so I apologise but just thought I’d stick my oar in!

    Regards

    Hi Guy,

Yes, you may well have a good point there, it is indeed a petrol forecourt. I best look into the highways situation before we go any further into the flashing idea.
I was leaning more towards the LED idea I think anyway, so I presume that would alleviate the hi voltage problem though.

    Thanks, I appreciate the comments
