Fixing Plywood Panels To a Fence
Posted by Harry Cleary on May 24, 2011 at 8:41 pmI am looking for suggestions for fixings to fit Plywood panels to the fence you can see in the background of this picture.
It’s made of straight round steel bars.
Ply is only half inch thick so I presume a fixing that will go through the face?
Thanks in advanceRobert Lambie replied 12 years, 11 months ago 5 Members · 6 Replies -

They are hand cut and hand painted by the school children Lynn. They aren’t expected to last forever, and will be varnished by spray.
They are aware of the weathering issues but preferred this to PVC or Dibond. -
OK Harry I expect you need something to keep them sliding down not being a fixer I have no idea I’m sorry 🙄

Hi Harry i would do it as follows. Coach bolt sunken into face tightened into place with nut and leave. Fill around coach bolt head with car body filler, sand smooth and paint. 1" piece of aluminium angle drilled through on angle in line with coach bolts.

Guessing you don’t want to interfere with face so how about saddle clips fitted to reverse with 4×12 screws at regular intervals?
See http://www.screwfix.com/p/talon-copper- … %20of%2010
…for example but all plumbers merchants keep these at around 10p each for either 15 or 22 mm dia bars.

I am guessing for the kids this is on a budget…
2mm wire and a good pair of pliers.
you have a Horizontal bar near the top of the fence.
drill Holes in the wood.
at the top only. Loop the wire over the Horizontal bar and back behind sign, twisting and folding away. that will prevent the wood slipping.
then at the top and bottom. simply thread the wire from the back out the face and back in and twist around the uprights of the fence and twist & fold the wire away. B&Q stock lots of wire that you cut to sizes you need.you could also run two straps of wood at the rear of the sign spanning the posts. just screw thru the face into the straps and the straps will act as a cramp of the poles holding the boards.
not the most cosmetically pleasing solutions i know…
obviously there is allot of ways to doing this… and this isnt something ide advise for general signmaking. I am just assuming you are maybe helping the school out mate?
