  • Fixing identification composite to mortar.

    Hello All,

Visited the Forum many times but first post!

I have been on an installation this morning and came across a fixing holding 3mm ACM to a brick wall (exterior). The fixing was pushed through the panel (pre drilled 6mm) and into the mortar (6mm hole). I am presuming that the composite was held in position and the holes made in one hit. The fixing is a Nylon fastener with a very low profile plastic head (in one piece) this particular one was 13mm across with a core length of 45mm with circular spines to grip within the cavity.

The strength of four of these fixings in an A2 sized panel was amazing and it looked very tidy without the tradition counter sank head and vinyl or raised cap cover finish I would supply.

I have looked at car panel fixings and ordered a misc 240 piece set to test but would be interested to hear if anyone has experience of using these, knows what they are called, where to buy etc…

    Thanks for your time.

    Hi Jamie,

I have used those over the years, but not for a while.
Great product, I’m sure SMP used to sell them, alas no longer around, they were brought by Ashby.

    Signgeer sell similar https://signgeer.com/fixings/snap-caps- … rint-plugs

    Hi Martin,

Thanks for the info, I will get some ordered and get testing. I couldn’t believe the strength of the fixing.

    Cheers

VK Plugs from Cherwell Sign Supplies.
Pre-drill a 6.5 hole in substrate and then a 6mm hole in hard brick/5.5mm hole in soft blockwork and hammer it through.
