    Hello all,

I have some 10mm foam (1500mm x 700mm) (not the best grade of density) and I have to fix it to the legs of a stainless steel table which will have ‘bain marie’ (?spelling) equipment on top. There will be a warmish atmosphere methinks. I was thinking of using vhb tape but worry about it failing on the stainless steel surface. I don’t want to use self tapping screws in case the boards swell up between the screws like a ‘chesterfield sofa’. Part of me wonders if the 10mm would ‘give in’ to swelling in the heat or just remain flat.

    Any thoughts?

ps I have no time with this one, silicone or grip fill type stuff will not set in time.

    Hi Gareth

I would be worried about warping as you are. How about making screw-holes larger than needed, and kind of ‘hanging’ the boards off large-headed scrtews, so there is some give? Sorry, all I can think of at the moment!

Did a similar thing a while back in a school kitchen using 3mm foamex on a solid stainless steel counter front. We made the holes a bit bigger as already suggested with some white plastic caps on them.

Hopefully it will be OK. It’s been up since the summer holidays and hasn’t been a problem. Yet….
