  • Fitting signs in a dust storm… not easy

Posted by Shane Drew on September 23, 2009 at 9:21 am

Sydney and Brisbane had huge dust storms today. Anyone with breathing problems were told to stay indoors, and kids were kept from school.

Awful trying to breathe in the height of the storm. Dust is covering everything, and I had to sign a truck and a van.

It’s even in the news here Shane – unbelievable 😮

However the truth is stranger than fiction – planet Earth just passed through the dust cloud trailing behind planet Niburu (otherwise known as planet "X") but the authorities would rather we didn’t know that 😕

Wow, a conspiracy theory on the first reply….. didn’t expect that Phill….

On top of the Dust storm, our water board cut off our mains water for the day, to replace water pipes in the street, so I couldn’t even wash the dust off with a hose… used a ton of windex though 😕

This is the worst we’ve experienced here in Brisbane, Sydney has had some dust storms in the past, but nothing like this I believe.

Eerie glow most of the day…… everything tastes like dust, it is in everything…

I’ve noticed a few times recently when my car and van has been covered in a fine red dust – And I reckon it comes from outer space 😮

Was caught out in the open during one of Kuwait’s sand storms a couple of years back. We had quite a few windscreens and headlights to change after that as they were all heavily pitted. I just sat down, back to the wind and just waited. Lasted for about 3 hours before subsiding, but the lighter dust took a couple of days to settle. Very weird at the height of mid day and it looked like you were witnessing a total solar eclipse.

looks bad mate, on TV over here too, but not just as bad as some sign workshops i have been in. now theres dust for yeh! 😮
just make sure you dampen all your surfaces down with a wet cloth, wipe down your sign blanks with water than dry off before applying vinyl. there should be NO EXCUSE for dust under your vinyl mate. 😉

    Shane,
Do you know if it’s having an impact in the setup and preparation of the upcoming Nikon SuperGP in Surfers Paradise on October 22-25 ??

    Alex.

No Alex, nothing stops motor racing on the Gold coast mate. I haven’t been down through the course for a few weeks, but the grandstands will be half way built by now, and all the prep is well underway.

You coming over? Its the same weekend as our Sydney Sign Show, the biggest in Oz.

good accommodation will be hard to get if you haven’t got something arranged Alex. Most of the motel/hotel/rental is booked out a year in advance.

I can quite imagine, The championship organisers deal with the bookings so that shouldn’t be an issue, but if we go i’ll be going on personal level and just maybe a little business if i get time, i would love to see the V8s in action and talk to a few teams in the process.
If not i’ll be watching it on TV as usual over here.:)

To be honest Shane from what I’ve heard yesterday and today would suggest they will not make it in time. It’s all very tight even if all the bills were paid on time, but you never know with A1GP and Tony Texeira. If the cars have indeed sat around impounded (as reported) since the last race at Brands in May there would be alot of problems from that alone to overcome even before you start to modify the cars to make them eligible for the race??
We’ll just have to wait and see, i wont be going so if it’s on I’ll watch it on TV. 😕

If its off Alex, they had better have big pockets because our government have stuffed up everything since they lost the Indy race and will be looking for compensation.

They are looking for a scapegoat and will do whatever they can to blame the A1gp organisers for making them look so bad (not that they need any help). I can hear the lawyers rubbing their hands together as I type. 🙄
