  • Fitting ford stripes – advice needed, please?

    Hey guys

I’ve got a job fitting some of the ford stripes to a van, just wondered how you guys would do it.

Firstly, do i cut the strips with the gap already in place on the cutter, the benefit would be that It should be easier to install in one go knowing both the stripes will match, the negative would be you’ll use more material.

Also do you put these on wet or dry?

Lastly what’s the best way to line these up, it’s the 2007 old transit swb

I do it 3 different ways.

1: Plot them pre-gapped and mask then fit dry.

2: Plot them separate and measure and fit separate. Sometimes i use a pre cut square to help keep it aligned in various places.

    3: Cut tape.

Option three gives the worst finish imo tho on a line.

    Hi Stuart

I used option 2, fitted dry and it looks great.

Not the easiest in my opinion, I think I will go with option 1 next time as it will be easier to line up. I had a little bit more difficulty with a few scuff marks on the bumper which he wanted covered but all went well.

In fact had another job in this morning as well so both jobs went smoothy and I’ve hopefully got another 5 to do now from a friend of his who wants the same done to his fleet.

Issue you can get with option 1 is the the curvature of the panels can throw the lines off.

A swift and mini front end will throw your lines inwards buy anything up to 10mm 🙁

Its all down to personal choice and what material you use too tho.

If i use normal vinyl then i mask it but if i use comply or bubble free then i dont, i just go with it 🙂
