  • First Part Wrap Design – Opinions please?

Posted by Peter Cox on November 2, 2005 at 8:38 am

Would anyone like to offer any constructive critisism on this design that I have done.

The breif was to cover the rear half of the van in oranges and use only the words that I was given (so I have no room for any artistic licence).

I will be using my new Versacamm SP-540V with graphityp wrap vinyl and laminate.

One other thing, I intend to charge £550 for the job, is this about right?

    Thanks in advance

    Peter

It can be very difficult designing a van when you have a rigid and inflexible brief, but I like that. A lot.

£550 looks cheap to me though. I would want more than that, unless there is a whole bunch of them.

i love the impact of the design, works really well overall.

just popping out so need to be quick.

    constructive crit:
ide drop all the text to 80% its size.
the side images i see are squashed (pardon the pun) :lol1: im guessing the actual one will be as back, (not squashed/condensed to fit?)
ide open kerning in places to allow for the white outline or not use as bold an outline.
i do like the iverall look on this one, just needs some tweaks. 😀

thanks a million for posting your work mate.. 😀

i like it but i think Rob is right about the text size, what you have done looks pretty good though,

my only thoughts are these…. we’re all pretty familiar with coffee vending machines etc yeah ? well i spent 5yrs as a service engineer for a vending co, and i never even heard of an orange squezer, so perhaps a small print of a daft model dropping oranges into the machine may work somewhere ?

we had our vans wrapped so the customer could see what we did, i think unless you have half an idea alredy, that people might not get it ?

here’s my old van (whats left of it 😳 ), it’s the only pics i have, but may poss give you some other ideas,

the bigger delivery vans had the machines all over them, i know you’re stuck with the customers choices, but maybe a little persuasion ?!!

Looks good Pete, and as Rob says, we`ll assume the stretched oranges on the side are just for draft purposes and not actually going to look like that when printed.

    £550.00 also sounds too cheap.

Hugh…..Nice “wrap” although “around trees” is not the idea. 😉

I like it too Peter, but I think Robs advice here is good. Not tosure on the conversion, but I’d hazard a guess that you a bit cheap too.

Hugh, bet you needed a coffee after that mate 😛

    What Rob said.
    Did they insist upon Helvetica?
I also feel that it looks like 2 separate jobs,
with the Zummo part looking like a soda can or something.
I would try to make Zummo pop out of that back wrap part by layering it out into the next panel so it reads smoothly.
A kiwi green with a black outline would have a lot of punch for Zummo.
The other lettering looks like it needs more attention paid to placement.
And I don’t do wraps, but I know that they are expensive….
so is a Versacamm for that matter.
    Don’t give your work away!
    Love…..Jill

You are so wasted working in a hardware store Jill, is the sign game picking up for you yet?

Yeah that’s good Jill. It brings the two parts together nicely.

    I agree……looks great Jill
The color works well – great idea with that lime green. Although I personally have always found that script font hard to read…but some customer’s here really like it. nice improvement
Sign game can be tough here huh?!!!

    Nice work Jill…
    i like that one.

    Peter,

The oranges look squashed (no pun intended), make sure you don’t stretch images, only scale.

Cut the design back abit, make sure you only print one width of your digitial print for the sides.

In my view it’s too ‘texty’.. cut it back abit and the text is oversized. “Think-simple” and it will be effective.

So call that design number 1… start again… and show us design 2 😉 and we will tell you which one we prefer.

But may want to be nice Jill and ask her for that file as I did like that one from our lovelly american Ms July!

DOUBLE YOUR PRICE! as lamination will be necessary and you need two people to apply etc.

    As usual great layout Jill.

    quote Robert Lambie:

the side images i see are squashed (pardon the pun) :lol1
    quote Dave Rowland:

The oranges look squashed (no pun intended), make sure you don’t stretch images, only scale.

Is there an echo in here 😉

P.S. The oranges look squashed (pun totally intended)

    Hi peter,

Think the design just looks a bit “sainsburys” with the oranges but cant give you a quick alternative., If you need a hand fitting it dont forget we’re just down the road.

    Peter the design looks good,
price wise I think on the low side.
Nothing to to with the sign, but orange squeezers dont seem to work in this country, fine in spain, where you see a zumma in every bar, or even california, oranges in the uk are to expensive to squeeze!
