Without a full time workshop or any wrap training I have so far kept away from getting involved with wraps. However I have just done these couple of partial wrap jobs to dip my toe in the water.

The Southey Van only really involved one deep recess and I used Digitally printed HP Air Release Cast. A bit nerve wracking as my first attempt with an expensive print but I found the HP vinyl very forgiving and easy to work with. It was easy to lift off, get rid of any creases and re-apply where needed. I did miss a couple of bits post heating which started to lift out of the recess a couple of days later but it pushed down again and attention to correct post heating solved it with no further lifting now 3 months down the line.

My own van involved a bit of a larger area and a few more bits to shape around. I used Hexis Hexpress HX2000 for the light blue. I found this not quite as easy as the HP vinyl although in places I’m sure it was my lack of training. It took me 3 half days to get the base blue in place juggling between rain and other jobs. It was quite a struggle and actually physically hard work. It confirmed my belief that I need to do a training course before attempting any more. I was quite happy with the eventual finish although close inspection from another sign maker will see lots of little mistakes.

Many thanks for all the input from fellow members on here who helped with questions and design.

Not having a full time workshop has always put me off enrolling on a course as I dont have anywhere to practise or do customers vehicles but this has shown me that it would be worth it just for the occaisional part wrap and experience. So off to book one.

    Cheers for sharing Stuart.

I want to have a go at a partial wrap like you have. I too don’t have anywhere I can install vehicles, nor do I own a van (yet).

I fancy trying with cut vinyl first, rather than digital cast… I’ve never used a cast film, or even got anywhere near that level of installation. I want to jump in a get creative.

I’m in the same boat Stuart!

I wanted to learn/try wrapping but have nowhere to pull in vehicles so believe it is a little bit of a waste when I can’t do it properly.

But maybe I should do a course so I’m in the know and then look into moving or building a large workable garage. 🙂
