  • Fire Brigade and Police Leaflet advertising scam warning

I was phoned yesterday by someone who claimed to be from the Fire Service selling advertising space in a leaflet on drink driving awareness that would be distributed in our area.
Me being a suspicious customer started asking questions…to which the ‘nicey nicey’ bloke hung up.
I looked on the internet and sure enough, this scam has been going on in many areas over quite a while…and a few people have be caught in it…handing over the odd £100 quid.
    BE WARNED!!!
Some people have a nerve and need to change their ways or they are heading fer HELL!! 👿

Did he have a Liverpudlian accent as we used to get loads of these at one time.
It was either, Fire or Kids with various health problems.

What bugged me most was they addressed me by my christian name as
though they knew me and said ‘I supported them last year’, did I ****

we get this every year, police, fire brigade etc. We just say send us a copy of last years so we know the publication exists. They hang up and then don’t bother.

Shame is there is a couple that are genuine and must get told to get tae!

Another similar scam is folk selling toilet paper for charity, is the cheapest paper, vastly overpriced, yes they do actually donate 5p or some minimal sum to charity but you can buy the brand leading toilet paper and then donate 50p, save money and donate far more to charity, quite a clever scam actually! not a scam as such but a nice little earner!

Even when these things are all honest and above board, the amount that is skimmed off the top as so called expenses is sickening. I do, on occasion donate to charities and groups, but I donate items for either their own use, or to be raffled etc. This does of course mean they can only be local to me, as I’m not prepared for a single penny of my money to go to anyone other than the people I intend to have it, but I still feel I do my bit.

be careful of part 2 of this scam, in a few months time or even a years time they will phone you asking for your payment as the leaflet/booklet has now been distributed, they will tell you they had a verbal approval to proceed and have a recording of it if you want to hear it.

Tell them to …… you know what, they threatened me with legal action and I said "bring it on, you obviously know where to find me" and I hung up.

To my surprise I never heard back from them, be stern and assertive so they know there’s no chance and they will stop pestering you.

    Cheers

    Warren

    Ha ha, guess what?

I had a call this morning, from a withheld number. Very charming lady…."Hi Neil, how are you my love, remember we spoke last year, it’s about the Police in Partnership".. ….B***S*** me thinks.

Obviously I just hung up but made me laugh. They must be on the prowl 😀

No Neil that was me, I just wanted to hear your voice.
    😉
I get those calls too, always from some Fraternal Order of Police something or other trying to get me to buy circus tickets for underprivileged kids.
I just tell them to send the kids to my shop if they want to see a real circus.
    Love…..Jill
