hi folks just a quick question . I run signlab 4.95..a great tool very reliable..usually .But ive noticed probs lately with opening files. when i open ai files sometimes i dont get the full logo or what ever it is customers sent me . If i drop it into signlab 7 (demo version) it opens no probs (?) . Ive also noticed that sometimes when i drop an eps file that ive been sent you can see it goes in by the blue line along the bottom of the screen ….but it aint there …it doesnt happen all the time which is even more confusing .Vehicle outlines are somtimes left without any detail i mean you can see the vehicle but no outlines just a mask so to speak

    any ideas

    Regards Brian

i suppose i could re install but im always a bit paranoid about doing that just incase it doesnt work 😥

Brian, try opening the eps in illustrator or coreldraw first, if it looks ok export it out again as an eps or ai and then import it into signlab.
    I often found this helped.

AI, EPS contain instructions that draw up how the image should look in your design program, normally SignLab programers etc sort this out, they don’t get it right. However Adobe who designed EPS etc., those programs normally open files correctly, however Corel is about 90% good for opening files.

I know that doesn’t help Brian, thats just the way it works.

Tell the suppliers of the file to save it in an older version of eps or ai should sort it out I think.
Read version 8 of .ai etc for signlab somewhere thats the newer versions

    Hope this helps

Brian, its all to do with the age of the software you are using, as programs such as freehand and illustrator have developed they have changed to the point that signlab 4.95 now doesnt understand them anymore. The reason that the demo version of signlab 7 opens them OK is because it to has changed and one of the changes will be how it reads these type of files.
The reason it doesn’t happen all the time is because some of your customers will still be using older versions of illustrator etc.
The best way round this is to ask your customer to save the artwork in an earlier version of illustrator then you wont have a problem. I use inspire 1.6 and have a similar problem but I cant afford to upgrade inspire to flexi 7.6 which is what it would be now.
Because I also use illustrator and have illustrator 10 I just open the files in that and then save as an earlier version myself.

Brian, I’m exactly the same. Its not a case of not moving with the times its really down to money, the upgrade from inspire 1.6 to flexi 7.6 would cost me a fortune and I just dont have that sort of money. I run windows 98se on my design computer because inspire wont run with anything more up to date. Inspire does everything I need it to as most of the work I do is straight vinyl so an upgrade although nice wouldn’t really be of much benefit to me at the moment.
I have never used signlab so can’t comment on it myself but I do know that some people that use it say 4.95 was the best version made.
There will come a time when I have no choice but to upgrade but at the moment there are things that I need the money for more than an upgrade.

I couldnt agree more martin ……this game was so much easier when i was doin the lot with a set of pure sable writers and a tin of one shot .But the sign trades moved on ,so has technology ,looks like ill be forced to upgrade

    Regards Brian

    thanks for your imfo
