Felt for my squeegee? help!
Posted by Karen White on June 20, 2022 at 10:36 amHi everyone! 😀
I like using felt edge squeegees. mainly the avery blue ones but not used in a while.
i bought some online but it was from eBay and although they lasted well, the supplier no longer sells them. i have picked up some others from suppliers here and there but they are not as good and burn out in no time.
can anyone advise what supplier is best for this type of thing. can i not just buy a good felt strip because i have loads of old squeegees that are fine, just the felt is ruined.i have just applied a nice printed panel and left marks all over the face that i cannot remove!

We have been using Monkey strips for years now. The owner of the company sent me an assortment of colours to try, and we have been using them ever since! I think some colours are a different density to others.
I guess Metamark use the purple ones as it matches their brand.
3M use the blue Monkey Strips coupled with their 3M Gold squeegee. I think 3M went for the monkey strips because it has a thin, good wearing micro felt. So doesn’t completely remove the friction and pressure you can get from some thick or padded alternative squeegee strips. Those ones sign trade supplies sell are good value for money. You can also buy Monkey Strips and Banana Strips, or the roll of strips from the likes of Amazon, Ebay etc.

I use the blue 3M felt strips, get them from William Smith, very nice to work with.

Thank you to everyone that replied. this is a great help!
I think i will try sign trade supplies first because that does look a good deal.thank you again. 🤗👍

we bought a sheet of felt from a local fabric shop and we use our double sided banner hemming tape to stick it to the squeegee. quick, easy and very very cheap!

rob i saw an old post once saying that you use denim on your squeegee. is this something you would still use? i thought that was a good idea.

We’ve just bought some “Banana Buffers” and can’t believe the difference a simple piece of felt can make! They glide over wrap material without leaving a single scratch. Use to buy eBay specials but never again.

Banana Buffers are definitely worth having in your fitting box David.
They are another product by Monkey Strips.
They are primarily for “wet” applications, and by that, I do not mean water below the vinyl.
Basically, you soak the buffer periodically as you install the wrapping film and it helps reduces micro scratches on the face of the vinyl which can happen very easily as your felt picks up surface dust and oils from the vinyl face. When I say soak, dip it into a small tray of way. then pinch your fingers over the strip and draw your fingers back taking off the water and leaving it damp. this ensures you have minimal moisture near the rear of the vinyl. and if you are wrapping, make sure you are handling the vinyl with “dry fingertips” as it’s so easy to get moisture on the rear.
