feedback: corel X4
Just downloaded the X4 trail for a play and have only been using it for 20 mins and Im hooked. Currently using V12 and there is no comparison. Yeh everything is pretty much in the same place, but its just slicker and more refined. Also love the font list, with the name now showing in its font style and the iterations (bold, narrow, italics etc) as an extra flyout for those that have the option………..

For me the biggest surprise was the improvement in the trace- function… it’s not perfect but way better than in v12. X4 has also been more stable than v12.

Trace seemed to take a step backwards in 12 from 10. There are now more options and you see the results on the workspace rather than launching another programme…….

If you’re going for the upgrade Graeme, you might know already, but go for the box and not the download, that way you get the books, the clipart and other stuff I am told and it is the same price as the download.

Thanks Ian, I got the book with V4 many years ago and it was invaluable for finding clip art quickly. No software can match flicking through a book. The bought version also comes with a 160Gb external HD plus the usual corel draw goodies…….

Same here, v3 came with tutorial book that got me off to a good start working in Corel so many years ago. Then v6 with it’s clipart book, which I’ve still got, invaluable still for finding the right piece of vector design to utilise………
I’m salivating now with the thought of getting x4 myself (when I can justify it in reality)..

X4 is a major improvement over V12 if only a slight one over X3. You will also notice contours are now beziers not short sraight lines and the import/export filters are also better particularly pdf. Ensure it is the latest build – should be 14.0.0.653.
Graeme to speed up font display you can turn off the bold/italic etc.
It is also worth going to http://www.macromonster.com and http://www.oberonplace.com and downloading some of the macros available there. Take a particular look at http://recentfiles.netfirms.com/ and recent files it is far better than the original Corel open and save dialog box
