That Only Fools clip is one of those comedy moments that always comes to mind. Tommy Cooper is just genius!
I love Phoenix Nights, hilarious ……. I loved the one where they had the Ann Summers night.
:lol1: :lol1: :lol1: :lol1: Also the fortune cookie bit was just priceless.

Morcombe and Wise, The Two Ronnies…. Pure class. I never get sick of them…. Thats when humour was an art form imo.

D!ck Emery and Benny Hill were a bit on the edge, very clever but not is the same sphere of the others.

I’ve just finished the book on the two ronnies by ronnie corbett. An interesting read. Barker was painfully insecure, you’d never know it from his sketches tho.

I agree. Morecombe and Wise are my all time favourites. That stuff will be funny forever. They’ve been showing some of it lately on telly, the sketch with Andre Previn is just perfect comedy. Shame none of today’s acts put the same effort in. Apparently they rehearsed each sketch for 2 weeks. Mind you, you could rehearse forever, you’d never be as good as Eric Morecombe.

I have to agree, Morecombe & Wise and Laurel & Hardy are the best of all time for me.

Timeless comedy is a rare commodity.

The Morecombe & Wise ‘Jungle Book’ sketch is probably my fav, couldn’t find it on YouTube 🙁

We had an old timer comedian on the radio the other day, and he was saying the same thing.

He reckons bad language and crude suggestions are not real comedy, but just cheap laughs. Its a shame that all our youth today know is toilet humour (his words) but I agree.

He used Morcombe and Wise as an example of perfect timing and audience enjoyment. He lamented that todays comedian are nothing compared to the old guys. Even American comedians like Abbott and Costello were brilliant, not near as good as Eric and Ernie, but the skit ‘whos on first’ was pure genius. A million laughs, and not any swearing or inuendo at all.

Hard to find that sort of stuff today. Naturally funny talented people are happy to take the easy laugh, and not hone their skills or trade.

Bob Newhart was another. Never laughed so hard with him doing a skit just talking on a phone. A one sided conversation, but usually hilarious. Bill Cosby is another, although he is cleaner now than he used to be when he was younger.

    I’m feeling so old now…. 😥

If anyone has a chance then do a search for Bobby Thompson – The Little Waster. He was a North East comic who toured round the club scene for years and he was hilarious if you understand the North East sense of humour.

Comedy is comedy, the language dosnt matter, What I dont like is f.ing and blinding for the sake of it.
In real life jokes are told with the colour of language, like Billy Connolly says it like a Glaswegian, and Jim Davidson like Londoner.
Both make me laugh harder than the double entendre stuff, that was invented for censored tv and film, and indeed Music Hall.
No you dont have to be vulgar to tell a joke, just natural.

Present day comedy I would have to say Harry Hill’s TV Burps is the funniest thing on TV..imo, me and and my son sit there in tears,

I know its a different kind of comedy and Harry Hill is not to everyone’s taste but I find him hilarious.
Here’s some of the xmas show, 10mins long but worth a view

Agree about Chubby Brown, hes a tool.
uses the F and C word just for the sake of it, Jack Dee is my favourite comedian, and I think the fact he only swears when the moment is perfect is perfectly acceptable.
    Film wise,

the drill hall scene from full metal jacket, with Sgt Hartman dishing out insults.

The scene from American pie the wedding with the truffle.

and the whole of the holy grail and life of Brian.
Theres loads more but those are my favourites I think.

Fine thanks Lynn, thanks for asking.

For what is worth, I find humour a very good tonic. I’m fortunate to have a wife and children that enjoy a laugh too, so we have a pretty good chuckle most days. Even when I put in a long day like today, and I get home after midnight, the wife or kids, if they are still up, will have a chuckle or wait to tell me something funny that happened during their day. A laugh is a pretty important ingredient in my average day.

I’m spending an hour or so working with Heng and Bridget tomorrow, helping them out on a difficult job…..they are a couple that enjoy a laugh too. Fun people to work with….. always a pleasure.

Pity about the language. I have seen him on the telly without the poor choice of words, and he was much funnier then IMO 🙄 😛

have to agree there Shane, i had watched him for years before i saw one of his videos, he’s as funny as hell. the video left me feeling a litttle let down i guess, he really doesn’t need to swear in his act.

    that said…

I don’t mind swearing, if in context, or even with some comics, i have seen many of the blue comediens such as chubby brown, bernard manning, jimmy jones, and plenty of others, mostly they were in the overnight truck stops i used to frequent with my dad when we went on long haul (2week) round the uk trips, suppose i must’ve been 16/17/18yr old, it was the strippers that scared me!

I guess it’s what you like, personally i like most comedy, regardless of genre, anything from tommy coopers sillyness, to bernard mannings politically incorrect rants. The guys above might swear like troopers, but heck, they had anything from 2-400 blokes crying with laughter in those truckstops and working mens clubs we’d stop at! i’d live those days again like a shot, seems so long ago now though!!
