we did this about 3 years ago. When we bought the vinyl we were told it was 5 year durable. after we fitted it the supplier reissued there catalogue and stated it was not reccomended for outdoor use. It faded and lost its effect within 12 months, Has anybody else had this problem?

ive used prismatic. holographic, folies etc mate. all based ind very similar make-up. i would be amazed if any had more than 2 years life. most are 6month to 12 month tops.
only now, companies like spandex and oracal have introduced a 5 year fil plain silver. still, i would like to see how this holds out. but at least the suppliers are working at it.
on your ansewer, no for outdoor, yes for indoor. 😉

That’s a shame, Peter, because it was a nice effect.
I put Gerber Holographic on my truck when I first got it, on top of black HP vynull.
It lasted approximately 1 year outside, as the color chart stated.
It was nearly as much as a pain to remove as Reflective, too.
I think around here, that stuff mainly gets used on race cars.
They usually don’t last longer than a year either!

a tip here would be to laminate!
im not saying it makes the vinyl easy to wrok with but will ake the fascial appearance last longer.
as jill says. apply ontop of vinyl & it will also increase adhesion. e.i. dog-earing

    Hi Peter,

I have tried laminating holographic with only limited success. The results were very poor if using anything other than very thin high gloss laminate. The best results I achieved were by using a 30 micron vehicle wrap cast laminate.

My first stupid attempt was with a satin laminate on ‘bright overall’ – it’s amazing how quickly you can turn expensive nice looking holographic vinyl into bog standard metallic silver
