Loz, Medite is water proof MDF its a trade name as it comes in different types, lightweight, fire proof, water resistant, waterproof etc. costs about £18 an 8×4 and takes paint very well, usually 2 coats primer undercoat and 2 coats of gloss to both sides, it cuts well with a jigsaw or as I use, a fretsaw for the lettering, routs well even on a CNC router.
The paint I use is Crown Stronghold Exterior and roller paint it with a gloss roller.

Nice one Steve, that’s the 1st time I have seen the photo machine used on an actual job! I have shown it in demo’s and stuff but nobody seems to use it. Did you cover it in anything like clear vinyl? The only problem with it maybe if the sign is cleaned the corners could pick up.

The layout is’different’ to what gets slapped on most wall boards…nice use of shapes, good rhythm between the colours and real depth through raised text and that photo-cut image….mmmmmm….

…still reckon it’s worth a lot more than than as well… 😉

I use Medite because its cheap, it’s easy to cut, rout, shape, paint & in my opinion it conveys a better idea of quality to customers for the type of signs I like to produce than I can produce in foam board or dibond also dibond it bloomin expensive. When medite is painted properly I can get a really nice deep gloss finish on it. The next sign I am doing this way the customer wants a parchment paper finish on it, like a subtle marble effect, this is easy, nicked the idea off Changing Rooms 😆 😆

You need to go to a timber merchants as the DIY sheds (B&Q) and builders yards (Jewsons, Jacksons etc.) tend not too sell it.

Brian, whacked a couple of coats of Frog Juice over it hopefully that should sort it, CLEAN SIGNS! bugger mate they do things posh darn sarf don’t they geeza.

Thanks Mike praise indeed from the master, will have a swollen head if this keeps up, ah the price well its all about the cost of living in your particular area, thought Vaughan was gonna pooh his pants when he saw the bill 😆 look I live out in the country, have quarter of an acre of land live in a 3 bed house and it cost me £37.5 K, in Lincolnshire the average wage is about £9K p.a. cos its all landwork and factories and with ALL THESE BLOODY SOUTHERNERS COMING UP HERE BUYING OUR HOUSES PUSHING UP PRICES!!!! opps sorry hee hee! 😉

It’s the 2nd scan tool Gray. Click on the pyramind thing then you should have 4 other icons, the triangle with the tadpoles is the one you want!

I don’t think it’s an extra module. Hmmmm I have been selling Signlab for nearly 10 years now, I guess I outta know 😳

What Signlab package do you have Gray?

I don’t use Signlab (too tight), but for anyone using CorelDraw this effect can be achieved using CorelTrace, and the Woodcut trace option. Import a greyscale photo (You may have to enlarge the original image somewhat), then play around with the settings for the woodcut option. Without too much hassle you’ll soon be producing the same kind of stuff.

Now if only I was smart enough to do a step by step….

Hi guys, Ive used this exterior MDF before but have always find it never seems to stand up to the Yorkshire weather and eventually the surface seems to go bumpy as moisture is absorbed, even after several coats of paint and varnish. Hope that it works better for you !!

Hey Brian, depends on the paint you use, its like vinyl you wouldn’t fit 2-3 year on a vehicle that was sure to get some hammer, you’d use 5-7 at least, same with paint a £4 tin of gloss from Wilkos ain’t gonna last as long as a quality exterior grade paint.
I use ONLY Crown Stronghold Exterior paints, the board gets 2 coats of stronghold primer undercoat front AND back then 2 coats of stronghold gloss front AND back also if the front face has a paint effect, fades etc it gets a coat of International Yacht Varnish. Works for me.

Whats this about yorkshire (small Y) weather being bad, I dunno you yorkies (small Y) are all the same always think yorkshire is best, eeeeh! bah! gumm! gods owun cuntry tha knows!!! 😉 😀 😀 😀 😀 😀 😀
