  • Fabric Spec for NES 40mm H section light boxes

Posted by Myles Brewer on March 23, 2018 at 11:30 am

    Hi,
Just wondering if anyone out there might have printed & fitted stretch fabric with silicone edges for fitting into a NES 40mm H section – Ultra slim LED light box?

I have contacted NES directly but they are very unwilling to part with the information unless I buy the units from them!!
This seems ridiculous as the fabric is a consumable product just like any other light box media that any sign company should be able to buy & supply to a customer without having to buy the original box/frame just to be given the material spec??

    Hi Myles

    Is it a standard profile?

    Any pics?

    Hi Andrew,
I’m not sure what standard is to be honest. I think it is exclusive to them. All I currently have is a tech drawing I was given by Architects who specified the system & an image from their own website here:

Looks to be standard fabric print.
Need to make sure you use the correct size silicone 10 or 14mm. You just need the size of the unit + the size of the silicone strip. Whoever you buy the print off should know how much smaller to make the print(dependent on what fabric they use) to ensure correct tension

I was intending to print the fabric myself if I can. (on HP L26500 latex) That’s why I wanted the fabric spec as in weight & also the silicon strip spec, but they wouldn’t tell me unless I bought the units!!!

I don’t print latex (solvent and uv)so can’t comment on materials available for your kit. I bought some profile and did tests on material I could use on my uv. Got some great results but took few goes to get the tension to my liking.

    Hi Myles

Been meaning to reply to this all week

The video below might help you.

The silicon edge we use in 14mm x 3mm this is fairly standard stuff.

Not sure how your material will behave on the latex but I know on Dye Sub we have to take into consideration the shrinkage

Hopefully, this video will help you to get the measurements from your clients

Thanks for that James, I’ll have to try & get hold of a sample of fabric to do a test print on with the latex. Sign & Digital actually do a self adhesive silicone strip which I might try out too as I wouldn’t be able to stich it.
I’m actually contemplating supplying my customer with a different light box, manufactured by a local company being as NES have been so unhelpful.
