  • Extraction or not for digital printers?

Posted by Andrew John Sawyer on January 5, 2006 at 12:38 pm

What are the views on extraction for digital printers. We run a Uniform Grenadier and are looking into extraction options for fumes as in the summer they can become quite bad. Direct extraction thru a wall seems out as it also removes any heat! We are looking at stand alone units that will recycle and filter upto 10 times an hour. Is it cheaper to remove staff as they drop and take on fresh blood??!! Only joking but probably true.

There are a few extraction systems out there. I have considered one myself, but can’t afford it yet. I use extraction fans from my printing room out to my workshop, just a normal kitchen exhaust fan actually.

I lose cooling too, but it seems to work OK. I’d be interested in what you find out tho.

Andrew have a look at Purex, they do extraction units for printers that do not require a external outlet.

Island Clean Air makes an air scrubber that might do the trick. We went this way as opposed to actually venting out the air for heat reasons too. Their Duster 2500 FC is designed specifically for shops with lots of solvents in use. Made a huge difference for us. While it is a Canadian product, it seems to be available all over North America so I am sure that it’s made its way to the UK.
