    Hi Everyone!,

I have a freelance job I’m working on. The customer wants to have two panels that will digitally printed and wrapped mounted on two posts. I don’t have any details as to exactly what the panel and post material will be. So everything I’ve drawn up is speculative at the moment other than graphics and panel height / width. I’ve removed the logo as I don’t know if the customer would be ok posting specifics about this job or not. I’ve attached a pdf to give a better idea what is being made.

My two main questions are these:
    1. The top panel will have a large format texture in the background to simulate letterpress paper. The sign shop she is using said they want the image to have a resolution of 1000dpi. Is that a typical resolution for a panel that is 36"(h) x 60"(w)? It seems a bit high to me. I think this sign will mostly be seen from the roadway anyway. I am using a procedural material generator, so I can go up to that size, but the file will be massive. Here’s the texture I’m using. I’m adjusting it in Photoshop to be a lot whiter. https://www.filterforge.com/filters/11073.html

    2. She asked if I have any advice on display lighting that is more vandal resistant. She said they had another location with lights installed in the ground that vandals keep breaking. I know there are some lights that point down that are mounted on poles and also some display lighting that mounts on the top of the sign. Since the sign construction is speculative at the moment, it’s harder for me to gauge what could be mounted on top of the sign. Anyone here have any hardware or method they can recommend for this purpose?

Thanks again everyone for any input, it’s always greatly appreciated.

If the artwork is actual size, 175dpi would be fine.

    Thanks Jamie for the reply,

I’ll see if I can get away with the lower resolution. I’ve already suggested my client have a small sample printed so she can make sure the pattern and color are what she wants.

Even at 300dpi the file size wouldn’t be horrible. At 1000dpi the bitmap would be several gigs without tiling. All the other art on the sign will be vector art, so the resolution won’t matter for those elements.
