Exterior Gold Mirror Vinyl – recommendations please?
Posted by David Hammond on May 18, 2015 at 4:44 pmI’ve a customer looking to have gold mirror vinyl on their new Ford Van.
The mirror vinyl I have used in the past isn’t very durable outside, and fades in 12-18months.
Can anyone recommend a long term, gold mirror vinyl.
Ta in advance.

You will need to revert to a chrome cast mate. you will get Avery Conform Chrome from Europoint or 3M chrome from Wm Smiths. Both cast films but you will pay around £50-£80 for a single metre by 48inch wide.

Hi David,
we have used R Vinyl efx "outdoor durable series" mirror gold and silver vinyl, and laminated them before cutting, and they are still going strong 7 years later. This is by far the best mirror finish vinyl we have found for exterior. Downside is it only comes in 61cm roll. We bought it in spain, not sure where you will find it in the UK. I will try and find a google link for you and post it!cheers

Hi Dan
I am sure it will still be a foil polyester though mate.
laminating will increase the colour life, so will mounting it on top of another vinyl as it has a better grip on surface and helps prevent peel back. laminating will help it from colour deterioration.
I have done just this on a few jobs, I agree it works very well and lasts years as a multi layer application, but i am not a fan of trying this on a vehicle as there are many variables in how it can go wrong and sure as sugar the customer will be back point the finger. :lol1:here is a job i did about 11 years ago using that method with mirror gold mounted on gold..

Hi Rob,
quite correct it is a poli foil. We have used it on all the Fairline vehicles for the dealer over here and they love it! We get about 5 years life unlaminated and other are going well at 7 when they have been laminated. Only really on flat surface applications though, its not great on big curves, as it doesn’t really conform to them. Will try and dig out some pics later.Cheers

Just seen your link, looks great! We always try and mount it on another vinyl with a slight shadow, just for ease of removal! We had a three day fight with a pick up, 8 years later trying to get it off when the sun had attacked it! utter nightmare!
