• explorer 8 problem

Posted by Peter Normington on March 29, 2010 at 8:23 pm

My neighbor asked me to help him out, he is disabled and relies on the internet to shop.
He has a new computer with windows 7 and ie8.
All was working fine and he could log into Tescos and do his order etc.
but today could not, and asked me if I could help.

    I have established the following.
I can log into tescos after entering his username and password, but only by using the enter key, if I mouse click the "log in" button nothing happens.
When I click on links on the site again nothing happens, but if I copy the target to ie title bar and press enter the link works.
I have tried the obvious remedies(or so I think)
Has anyone else come across this?

Sounds more like a problem with the site Peter? I know some websites are having issues with compatibility in 8. Not much help though.

Open Internet Explorer and try this:

    Tools > internet options > security > custom level…

    Find "Active Scripting"

    then check enable.

Harry, it works fine when I log in on my computer, using ie8 so site looks good.
Phill I will give that a go, but my settings are default and I already put my nieghbours back to default, will let you know if it helps tomorrow, thanks

Ok dump explorer and get him onto Firefox it’s a lot safer Just install Firefox and it will ask you if you want to import your bookmarks and settings, just click yes and your done, Far better and safer than explorer

I think a change of browser may be the answer,
    if Phil’s suggestion doesnt work

    Didn’t 🙁 worth a try though.

Martin, the mouse was my first thought, but works ok everywhere else ‘cept ie8

Killed explorer and my neighbour is now happily shopping using google chrome. (thanks for the tip Marcella)

chrome is good, another browser to consider is opera found it so much faster than other browsers, been using it to research and design websites for mobile devices, like it as it is very uncomplicated 😀
