Exhibition Pop Ups
Hi all,
Just been asked to do 4×3 curved popup stand, i know the stands come in as modular, but just wondering about the printed panels. What material would i use to print onto? and how are they attached to the stand?

they attatch using magnetics strips.
We have printed our own in the past but now tend to use the company that supplies the system as they tend to do a good price including graphics..cheers

The best way to produce one of these stands is by printing to a white film around 10mil thick and over laminating it with a 10mil thick polycarbonate. The printable film should have a block out layer as you can never really control the lighting at a presentation/trade show. As your pop-up is smaller you could do this with a 5mil/5mil combination if you knew your client would be careful with the print.
I know a lot of people are going to suggest that media X works well with their Cadet/Versacam (or similar) but I would suggest that these aren’t the best printers to use. Printers like the HP5500 and the Encad 1000i are the way to go for this as they have a superior colour gamut by a long shot. You would probably find that the vendors selling the hardware are using HP’s or Encad’s to produce the graphics themselves. Dye based aqueous owns the trade show market for quality.

Exhibition work is my main business and I have done lots of PopUps in my time.
I have tried many combinations and finally settled on Kentmere Opaljet 300 as the printed media overlaminated with an 80 micron matt laminate from Allprint (SR3).
I print these on a HP 5500 ps.Depending on which make of frame you use, most graphics are attached by some form of hook at the top and mag tape down each side, the attachment of the hooks and tape is the secret to the finished graphics looking good on the frame, also the use of a quality mag tape is essential.
