  • Estate Agents Signs Erection?

    Howdy folks

We re-branded a local estate agent recently (very nice, thankyou) 😀
Part of the job was supplying the usual correx boards, posts etc to their current sign erector which was all hunky-dory.

I asked what the agent was paying for the boards to be put up and was told £3.50 per visit or £10 covering the life of the board (minimum 3 trips and potentially more if the sale falls through)
Surely that can’t be the going rate for this sort of service?! 😮
I wouldn’t put one up in my own garden for that!

Anyone give me an idea what folks pay elsewhere? (I’m not really looking to get in this sort of business having worked at a company that did this sort of thing in Coventry years ago so I know it’s all about turnover. That said it would be good to be able to get back to my client and say the usual rate is….)

    Cheers
    Paul

    All about Turnover?

    it’s your profit that counts…

You have answered your own question mate, don’t do it for what they are telling you they pay. unless you want to be a busy fool…
they also cant guarantee in writing what volume you will be given.

I personally wouldn’t entertain them. we sell a
    correx board 2’x2′
    FOR SALE
    Tel Number
    £25
over the counter and they fit them-self.

plenty more lucrative areas of sign work to get into than this.

    Absolutely Robert

As I say I couldn’t understand why anyone would do it for that. Mad!

    Cheers

    ps
I meant turnover of signs; lots of signs close together would make it just about feasible in a city, but out here the sites could be 10 miles apart

Price you were given was probably right, people put these things up for pennies, company round this way does it but they do the work for a lot of the local estate agents & when they go out to put up the signs they will generally have boards from a few different estate agents to put up in the same area.
They pay a bit better for commercial premises where a v board has to go up but it is still not worth the money they are prepared to pay someone to put them up.

90% of our business is estate agency work (including commercial signs, developments, shops, offices etc).

We have a lot of good clients, but a lot of Estate Agents feel they should only have to pay pennies for the service.

This is a recent conversation I had (condensed)

‘Our current fitter is terrible, we wait over two weeks for a Sold slip to be fitted. How much would you charge to fit our signs??’

Me ‘we can fit your boards for you for £X ammount’

‘Hmmmm, but that’s £1 more than we’re paying now though….’

It seems some firms prefer to save £1 or two per job and have poor service.

THAT is what we’re up against!

I didn’t hear back from that particular chap, fortunately.

As has been said, it’s all about volume.

It’s a bit like comparing a bus fare to a taxi fare.
