I am currently running 6.1 colour master and cannot open / imprt eps files is it because they are newer versions?

I have discussed upgrading to signlab 8 and have been sent a demo by Richard at Signmaster. I know that version 8 will open eps files and pdf files but as I only have an edge 1 for printing are there any other benefits?

I had the same trouble I found this answer on the boards some where
this may work for you. Open them up in AI, export them in AI legacy another box will come down save them in Illustrator 3. Then import them into Signlab. It works for me. Good luck

Open in any version of Illustrator, select "save as" where you can give it a new name or overwrite the original, next option will give you a drop down list to select which version you want to save it in. Select version 8 and you should be OK.
I have to do this for engraving files I send off as they still use older software.

    Thank you Gents

that worked and will help me in the future.

I know this is a signlab part of the forum but can you shed any light on this
If I choose to open a file with Illustrator, Ai opens then says it cannot complete task and shuts down. If I open Ai then open the file it is fine.

It seems more and more designers are using the latest adobe illustrator (CS) and it seems that the older versions of Signlab have problems with opening

Before I got Signlab 7.1 I asked the designers to save the eps to an earlier version such as 7 or earlier and convert everything to outline

Signlab 7.1 is fantastic as it allows you to import pdf’s as vectors
Worth its weight in gold when I consider the time spent mucking around with trying to open files

    Don’t know.

Have you got 2 versions of Illy on your system?

Perhaps a file is not the correct version for your Illustrator and the program needs to be open first in order to convert it on opening.
