Yeah …. It’s a problem I’ve had too. As Chris said usually if it’s a CS version it doesn’t import. The only way I’ve got around this is to open it in Adobe then export as a legacy file, legacy eps or legacy ai, then it will import into Corel, Signlab whatever.

I have Corel 9 and just use file/open and select the file. It does not seem to import eps in Corel.

Change the "file type" tab to Postscript interpreted and not Eps or all file types. This always works for me.

Its important that you choose the rigth filter when importing eps.
There are two eps. fliters and it should be the "Post script interpreded" filter.Corel chooses the wrong filter by default!
It can also be problems with newer eps-files that are saved in Illustrator sometimes.
To be able to open eps-files in my Corel 12 the file must be saved as an Illustrator 8-file or older. -
quote Martin Oxenham:Change the “file type” tab to Postscript interpreted and not Eps or all file types. .
That is the best option.

not had a prob with eps, other than some images not fully opening, just bits of them, maybe thats why !
what would cause corel 12 to shut down in an instant, when i try and open one particular ai file ?
-
happens to me from time to time mate.
Best bet is there is a broken node in the file, causes a memory confict or something.
If I have that problem with importing to corel, I usually try and import into my sign program. Most times nodes go off everywhere.
Love to know if someone has the answer coz I usually end up with a bruised forehead from hitting the wall 😕
Mostly find it in files created on a MAC.

i’ve deleted the file now, but i think it was an ai5 file, a vehicle outline to be precise, the only thing that would open it was summa winplot, it opened ok, but only as a cut file, not as a scalable vector as it should be, cant save to another file type from winplot, it auto saves as an isi which corel wont look at !

It may simply be that the .eps file you have been sent has been created by a more modern version of illustrator than your version of Corel can recognise. Ask for it to be re-saved as an older version of illustrator and re-sent
-
i guess thats possible Phil, i know i need a new outline disc !

If you can convert the eps to pdf via Acrobat or Jaws or similar the pdf should import ok into Draw, for the record Corel X3 has updated the filters and combined the eps and postscript interpreted filters and you are given the choice of placed or editable, multiple eps files can be imported in one go.

thanks Alan, i’ll see if that works,
just out of interest, what do you do ? you sem a real whiz with corel, wondered if you are something to do with them, a designer, or a general signmaker, thanks for the continued help anyways !
-
Basically Hugh I’m a signmaker using Signlab and the Corel Suite, regarding Corel I was/am a member of their advisory council (their term not mine) for X3 and a beta tester for X3, I am not employed by Corel but I do have to abide by their rules same as we do here. Always happy to help with any questions but can I also mention the Corel News Groups which are a great source for information.
Back to eps issues which cause Corel Draw to close down dramatically – try drag and drop.

thank you Alan, your advice is always good, now i know why !!
edit : well whadaya know, I dragged and dropped the file into corel on a new page, and…… bingo ! the only problem is that the file i was trying to open was the wrong one !!!!! 😮
i’m glad it worked though, i’d just spent an hour and a half working out a quote (i do it the long way by laying all the seperate colours onto a theoretical length of vinyl to work out the cut file and qty of material), coulda lost it if it hadn’t worked !!!
